You may not overeat, but is what you are eating healthy and balanced?
I would doubt very much if this is water retention, if fact, often the reason for constipation is not drinking enough water! If you are eating lots of the roughage foods and not drinking enough water, then you surely will feel bloated and you will be constipated! Make a bowl of porridge (excellent food for the digestion) and leave it out overnight! See what happens to it! That will happen inside you if you don't give it loads and loads of water. Just looks like a load of cement, doesn't it?
If you need to take a special food to 'make you go' then you are not eating a healthy diet.
It could be that you have a digestive problem, but that is unlikely - but it is still worth checking it out with your doctor.

Eat some fresh figs, rhubarb, ripe pears these work for most people. Make sure you eat at least 5 portions of fruit and veg daily and drink loads of water. Most people don't drink enough and they find that simply increasing their fluid intake can help them to have regular bowel movements. When the constipation eases, if you are still bloated, go to your doctor who should arrange for you to have a food intolerance test. I know someone who did this and found she was intolerant to anything containing wheat. Now she avoids it, her stomach is as flat as a board. This same friend was advised by a herbalist to sprinke linseed on her porridge in a morning and she says it helps to keep her 'regular'.

Plenty of fruit and water as well as high fiber foods such as oats/oatmeal, organic peanut butter and wholegrain bread.
If all else fails try drinking metamucil, its not a laxative its a cilium husk powder drink and its really good for you !!
Sometimes bloating can be caused by an aversion to a particular food, mabye its more what you ate rather than how much.

Prunes work good. Prune juice is as good. If you are on some pain meds like oxycodon or vicodin or codene, they will slow things up a lot.

Plums, prunes or figs.
If you feel bloated you are probably allergic to something : try to cut out bread and replace it with rice. The rice will be better for your stomach - easier to digest.

Fiber and lots and lots of water.
The thing thats worked best for me is acupuncture and yoga. There are actually stretches that massage the abdomen to keep you regular. I once was so bloated and thought it was gas, but after doing stretches for about fifteen minutes, I found it was all water.
Sorry for the overshare....

Try the new Dannon Activa yogurt. Eat high fiber cereal and fruit. Apples are good. If your symptoms persist see a doctor.
