About a dozen residents of a Dallas neighborhood beat a man after reports that he had been showing pornographic pictures to children on a playground, police said.

Brandon Scott Burke, 20, showed up Wednesday at an Oak Cliff apartment complex and was alleged to have shown a magazine with pictures of naked women to some of the children playing there, police said.

Nothing like a little peer discipline. As a police officer, I can't officially condone their actions and I know that justice must be controlled and enforced by rule of law to avoid a break down of society, but I bet this ol' boy thinks twice before he pulls a stunt like that again. The trouble is the ones that whupped his *** might wind up in jail.

Due to the lack of knowledge on the original posters part, this person declines to answer what is not a valid question. It is highly recommended you review all news and print articles on the subject and then resubmit this missive in the appropriate fashion. Those of us with brains will thank you at that time.

Not so clever now, is it?

One of Humanity's first endeavors as a civilized society was to establish a guide for public behavior. And the intention of those various laws and legal systems was to maintain the peace, protect the community, and create a standard of JUSTICE common to all citizens, acknowledged by all, and agreed upon by all.

To act against the law is to violate that agreement. To pursue any one individuals personal concept of "justice" is to cast yourself against the human community as a whole.

To be an officer of the law and to advocate, approve, or ignore the execution of that law is to betray all of your fellow officers, to betray the very system that you vowed to protect. It's shameful.

It's also human.

Laws are all too often inadequate, and justice a disgustingly slippery slope. And if I caught some nasty little son of a ***** showing porn to school kids, I'd be tempted to beat the bejesus out of him, too. But I hope I'd resist that temptation. I hope I'd have enough presence of mind, and respect for the law and its officers, to hit "911".

And wait.

Don't beat a man just for showing pictures. A beating is OK for a flasher, or someone who gets a cheap thrill from a quickie touch. A molester of course should get the anonymous full out beating - just short of death. No one should go to jail because of a molester.
I think some b**** slaps and a good talking to would've been appropriate for the picture man.

Please know that I while I find this man's actions totally inexcusable, vigilante justice is illegal. If incidents like this are condoned, walking into a neighbourhood and being mistaken for someone else who has done something similar could result in an individual taking a beating or worse for something he or she didn't do.. Want to leave the justice system to neighbours? I don't.

No. What's next? Will the town gather and beat up a computer monitor for displaying pitures of naked ladies?

Hard to say I feel sorry for him . I might feel a little as he is obviously a sick puppy and if I thought he would be dealt with in the legal system but when I know the courts won't do anything about it ( in Canada for sure ) , well then it is good he is getting a deterrent .

No. In fact we're already fighting a war against people who do similar things to those who draw caricatures of Mohamed...or the like.
