lcd 's are great for pic quality, but suffer from a slow response time , noticeable in fast moving scenes (latent image or "shadow"). dlp's or ila's are great for watching from a good distance and straight-on (contrast lowers as viewing angle increases). plasma's are the best all-around quality for tv and movies, and will outlast the others significantly, with no parts to replace (no $700.00 bulbs)
