I cannot seem to get clear, crisp shots using the 12x Optical Zoom on my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30. I've tried using a tripod, setting the "film" speed at 80 - and even at mid-day, clear skies etc., the shots are very grainy (noisy). I bought the camera because of this feature and simply cannot figure out how to make it work for me.

I doubt there is much you can do, other than reducing the noise in your photos via software such as Noise Ninja etc.
Frankly, I would never ever buy a Panasonic (because they continue to have 'issues' with NOISE...even at low ISO).

It is a blunt fact of life that Panasonic sensors are inherently "noisy." Go to Digital Photo Review and you will see.

Is the camera set to its maximum (8 megapixel) resolution? Also, is digital zoom turned off?
