not everyone has a car but all parents should have booster seats for child safety if your not in the uk this legislation doesnt effect you - i know that some local councils are providing some seats for taxis doing school runs but not all - this is an issue about saving lives

it appears many of you would prefer children to die because a taxi hasnt got a booster seat for a child than give someone a voucher for it so there parents have no excuse for providing one!!!!!

eddweeness, in the UK it is to do with height, under a certain height over the shoulder type seat belts cause massive neck injuries as do waist only seat belts in minors because they don't fit, the point of a booster is to reduce those injuries by raising the child to an adult height personally i would reccomend forgetting a booster seat and fitting a double harness if you have a child in the back but the law is an *** and motor manufacturers wont be prepared to do this as a standard so it is to expensive in comparison to a booster seat

OK to all those referring to car owners I am referring to parents that use taxis because they don't own cars, taxis are currently exempt from the law but in the uk most taxis are normal cars not hackney cabs so should not be exempt from safety laws and a boster seat may only cost 20 quid but if you have 3 kids its 60 quid it's new law that parents on benefits can't yet adhere to because it is expensive (feed the children or buy a booster seat what would you choose)

in response to anthony m - IM NOT A PARENT, but children die every day because they aren't secure in cars because seat belts arent designed for them, legislation has come out for child safety that doesnt cover taxis and as for benefits child benefits is a non means tested benefit - my concern is for children apperently you would rather have children killed by irresponsible drivers that crash into taxis with children in that have no booster seat

I don't think so. It's not that expensive.

i think all parents should be able to get a grant I'm just glad my kids are older as there is no way i could afford 3 booster seats, there is an issue on them saving lives but i cannot comment on that as i don't know what the statistics where before the law change, how are people with four kids going to manage ,3 booster seats would never fit into the back of an ordinary car i have trouble getting my grandsons car seat in.

A while back when my son was ready to switch from car seat to booster seat, I called the health department asking if there was a way to get one when I couldn't afford to buy one. She gave me the number of a female sheriff who ran such a program and she came to our driveway to set it up. Hope your area is able to do the same. Good luck.
Personally, I am now needing to contact them because the law is changing next year in Wa. State and my son hasn't used one for a couple years, now it looks like he may have to get back into it. Not sure yet, because the website says age 8 (or) 4-9 and about 80 pounds as the new requirement apparently is going to be. He is 9 but like 4-3" and 63 lbs. So it is confusing as to does it go by age OR the size, or the size no matter what? How many kids that age are that size?

What is the point in giving these booster seats to people who don't have a car, AND are on benefits, what a waste of money that would be, they will just flog them in a pub for more booze and cigarette money anyway! The government would be better putting money into getting these parents into work so they can buy their own seats and make sure their childrens welfare comes first for a change!

This is a very good point, although I don't think that they should be just given the money because once the money is granted whose to say that they will buy the booster seats? Maybe if they were given vouchers specifically for a seat and nothing else then yes because as you say it will save lives.

Parents on beneifits should not be what worries you. The fact that you put the life of a child before benifits for parents bothers me. The child's life is most important under all conditions. The child did not ask to be born into any circumstance, they are placed there. Now if your are asking for the aproval of the approving crowd because you are on benifits then I say yes because we no not what lies ahead for any of us and those who mock people who get beneifits for children should lose thier jobs and home and family but have to raise one or 2 children on a minimum rage and see if they feel great about there statement first and second those who have to take benifits don't really want to most have to.

Definitely not, a booster seat costs £10 from Halfords. If you eat Tesco value for a day or two you will save enough to buy one. And standard boosters last years and years. In fairness, if you could afford the car in the first place, you can afford a booster seat!!!

If Parents on benefits can afford to take their kids to MacDonald's every week then I'm sure they can afford a booster seat for £15.00. Its hard working parents that have trouble finding money for these things!
a Booster is NOT required for taxis and referring to my earlier point if they can afford taxis then.....

if on benifits and running a car then no a grant should not be made avalible .if you can afford to run a car on benifits then your can afford to buy a £15 booster seat for the saftey of your child . but in some cases booster seat or not it makes no differance to the so called responsible parents who still allow small kids to flafff around the car un seated or restrained . more fool the so called responsible parents who allow this to happen when there child goes whizzin through a wind screen. irrisponsibility all to common on our roads

Yeah, let's give them booster seats. And crash helmets for when they are on their bikes. And knee pads for when they're on their skateboards. And shin guards for when they're playing football. Infact, let's just keep them wrapped in cotton wool then their parents won't have to take any responsibility for them and can carry on sitting outside the pub all day smoking one *** after another, which is what a lot of them do round here. We don't get any benefits as we earn just a bit over the lower limits. We have to pay for every f'''''''ing thing we have, why shouldn't they? How come they can afford better mobile phones than I can?
