It depends on the fees in each country. Here in Canada (Ontario), it's closer to $90.00 CAD, but that's for adults. And in U.S.:

Age 16 and older: The passport application fee is $67. The execution fee is $30. The total is $97 .

Under Age 16: The passport application fee is $52. The execution fee is $30. The total is $82 .

Hope this helps. So, I guess typically around a hundred bucks or less.

in Malaysia, the fees for an application of a passport is MYR 300.00 for standard 32 pages.

Yeah...the cost is about $100. Make sure you apply well in advance, it can take up to six weeks. If you don't you often have to supply travel documentation and fees to expedite the process.
