Whilst out in my garden last night I have been bitten on my left kneecap. It started as just a itchy lump which has progressed into a massive hard hot red lump that is making it painful for me to use the knee. Its also very very hot. I have used antihistamine and a bite cream but neither are working very well. I am generally quite prone to allergies just one of those unlucky people. Do I need to see the doctor or is this ok for it to be so swollen and sore? Thanks very much for reading this and hopefully helping out.

I have used antihistan its usually great for bites but its done nothing. I just took some ibruprofen. Think this could be a visit to the doctors out of hours as its sore to even walk now.

Run cold water over the the swelling, you could also try an ice pack and sit with your leg up but level. If there is hole or mark make sure it is clean.

You don't want a healing cream but a cream that will penetrate into the wound toallow any poision out.

If it is still swollen and painfull after 4 hours seek proffessional medical advice.

It is most likely you have been bitten by a pesky mosquito, I am also highly illergic and my bites swell up like tennis balls and itch sooo bad. It will go down within 24 hours but you can speed up the process by adding a cream called Anthisan, you will find this in any pharmacy or supermarket. It takes the edge off the itch and speeds up the swelling reduction. I also find piriton medicine really stops the itchiness. I know it is feeling really uncomfortable right now but it will go down within 24, perhaps 48 hous if its really really bad, even if the creams dont work. Hope this helps xx

I SERIOUSLY don't want to worry you BUT.... with all this recent hot weather over here, there's no knowing quite WHAT sort of insect has bitten you nowadays, so I DO urge you to get down to your nearest A+E ASAP. I might seem a bit alarmist, but you never know. However, I really DO hope that it's nothing serious and that it soon clears up, but please DO get it looked at quickly, especially as the usual remedies have obviously been of no help.

The previous answer is spot on.
See your doctor pronto it's not worth risking the possibility of lyme disease which is caused by a tick bite and can be extremely serious if not treated early.
