My daughter is 10 and I know she's headed for needing braces. A girl in her class last year (4th grade) had braces, which I think is too young. What age do they usually get them? I haven't taken her to an orthodontist yet.

I think it's about 13-14. My daughter is 14 and she's had hers for 1 year and 3 months, she gets the braces of in December and then has to wear a retainer for a year or two. Her teeth look phenominal, I am so glad we were able to get them for her. Although, it is very painful and there are alot rules to follow about having braces, like caring for them and foods not eat and when they come undone. So be prepared for alot of crying and complaining once your daughter gets hers. Good luck.

There is no correct age for braces. It depends totally on the child. Some really need early intervention to guide growth and development to minimize the need for future treatment and sometimes this needs to start at age 5 or 6. Others have good arch shapes, but a few minor rotations here and there that could stand some corrections and this might wait until the child is in their teens. Your dentist will have to answer this question.

No, that is not too young. An orthodontist will correct arch and bite problems at that age and begin the brace procedure. My daughter had her cross bite corrected and her arch increased. She's 18 now and has a beautiful smile and teeth. A ten year old needs to go to the orthodontist now!

It's the right age right now. The younger they are the better because the teeth are easier to move around. Believe me, I'm 18 at have braces on my lower teeth and I feel just silly sometimes. I think if your daughter has braces now, they can be off by the time she leaves school.

They don't recommend braces by age, but by when all the permanent teeth have grown in...It impedes the progress that the orthodontics are supposed to do if the primary teeth fall out, and new teeth start coming in at their wierd angles.

There is no age. They get them as soon as they need them unless of course they still have their baby teeth. When your child needs braces it's best to get those types of things taken care of ASAP.
