Vcd has everything smaller - smaller resolution (360 x 240), smaller capacity (700MB only) and limited audio controls.

On the other hand, Dvd has all the luxury - adjustable resolution (720 x 480 & wide screen), big capacity (4.7GB), maximum audio (from mono to 8.1 surround).

glad to clear a thing for you!

What is a VCD?
VCD stands for Video CD. A Video CD is a high-density optical storage medium. It can store data, typically up to 650 megabytes. Video and audio are encoded using MPEG-1 format. Most of the stand-alone DVD players and VCD players can play VCDs.

VCD is still the most universally compatible format for wide video distribution. Anybody with a DVD player, VCD player or a computer with CD-ROM drive (standard configuration) can play VCDs. The video quality is better than most other formats and is sufficient for typical home viewing. A VCD recording medium is very cheap and most-widely available. Due to small sizes, VCD videos are also well suited for distribution.

What is a DVD?

A DVD is a very high-density optical storage medium. It is able to hold significantly more data compared to VCDs. A typical 2½-hour movie requires two VCDs. The same movie requires only one DVD. Moreover, the recorded movie has a 200% increase in picture and sound quality compared to VCDs. This is because a DVD movie is recorded using video data in MPEG-2.

DVD is fast gaining popularity with its high-quality video and high-storage capability. However, DVD recording medium (blanks), DVD players and DVD drives are still relatively expensive .
