Whay is the purpose of impedance normalization

Since everything is given in terms of the characteristic impedance of the transmission line, all of the values calculated for admittance, susceptance, phase angle, etc. are simply multiples of the characteristic impedance. This means that a single chart, normalized to a 1 ohm line, can be used for any line if its characteristic impedance is known. So, if you normalize everything against the line impedance, you get to only carry around *one* 'Polish Dart Board' instead of a different one for each line impedance ☺
