ive just woke up from a horrible dream crying. basically in reality my dad died 2 yrs ago of pnemonia weeks after a lung cancer operation (he was cancer sufferer most of my life) i was with him in hospital wen he died. In my dream however he was alive and i come home to find a letter on my chair in my bedroom saying that he had died from a gunshot wound and hours before was enjoying a game on tv with his sons, and then 2 shots were fired from outside the window and it got him and then was taken to hospital and didnt survive it. it was horrible, in the dream i was crying and that woke me up and i found that i had been crying physically in reality whilst i slept. why on earth have i had this horrible dream?

i dont really think about him much in reality because i think that if i think for too long it will mess with my mental stability. so most of my thoughts of my dad are probably subconciously.

Poor thing. Dreams can suck. There is no logical reason for any particular type of dream. They are just your subconscious mind at play. Place no significance on them. Losing your dad was a major trauma that left a deep impact on your mind. Try to think about all the good things you can about him on a daily basis. Write them down and draw pictures of pleasant moments the two of you had. The idea is to feed your subconscious with happy thoughts about him, so that when you sleep, your subconscious will be more likely to give you pleasant dreams. Try it, it works.

I can relate to this in a way. My favorite great-uncle died when I was about 12 and I didn't really know him that well because we lived several hours away. Last I saw him in the hospital all tiny skin and bones, thinner than I was whereas he used to be a big strong man. In my recent dream I was talking to him as he was alive and I was surprised to see him and said I thought he had died a long time ago. I think I woke up then.
My dream book says these things: Alive -- Excessive liveliness in a dream is a warning to guard your resources. (Not sure if that really pertains to it). Death - If you spoke to someone who is dead, you will soon hear very good news.

Dreaming of deceased love ones could mean you have some unresolved things you wanted to say or to do to him while he was alive.
death = departure
Basically, you may not completely get over the loss of his life. To you, subconsciously he is still alive. Being dead may not be a fact in your subconscious mind. In other words, deep down, you may be in denial. You have this fear or death. You projected a different way to die for your father because you want to give your dad a second chance to live. As a matter of fact, that projection is telling you that you want to give yourself a second chance to have better communication with him.
So, in your mind, he may experience so many death in your dream. That translates a simple fact of denial. You can't accept his death. There must be some issue between you too that you can't get over. Either something you can't let go or something you didn't tell him before his departure

Maybe you wish he had not died such a horrible death,and perhaps your sub conscience wanted you to believe that he died of something other than cancer. Perhaps this is your way of healing yourself and lessening the hurt and pain of knowing that your father died after suffering a long and horrible ordeal .
Your dream made his death seem less filled with pain ,because of the quickness of his passing in your dream.Sub consciously perhaps you wish that he would have rather died of a gunshot wound ,other than what he actually did die of.
Hey pool player ..i didn't copy your answer...i read yours after I submitted mine..I can't believe you said almost the same thing as me.

A person’s life is full of dreams. Dream can be about one’s ambition which he gets fulfilled with the passage of time thru his own hard work, intelligence, good planning and with the blessings of Almighty. Another is day dreaming which is really not a good habit and can be controlled with one’s will power. But what about the dreams a person experiences during sleep. Do they hv effect in our real life? What do they mean? What is their interpretation? The person asks to his friends, elders and seniors in his social circle. Sometimes he gets satisfactory reply and sometimes not. These days Internet is a rich source of information. So one does not need to depend on others for one’s dream interpretation. The Yahanswerholics Community member suggests the following.

Dead people in dreams refer to strong emotions that link us to them, whether they are positive or negative ( anger, guilt, love ).
Also, when dreaming of deceased people we are being reminded of different times, places or relationships which will help us to deal with the present situations.
Dreaming of death in general is about changes. You may be starting to accept the change in your life this event provoked, or thinking about taking a new pathfor yourself?

Well, I would say that in your dream you didn't want him to suffer. A gun shot would is a quicker way to die. He died of a slow death wth cancer and he was probably in alot of pain. You probably are wishing that he had of died quickly and pain free.

Have you been to see a berevement councilor? I think you may still need to talk his death through with someone. I'm sorry for your loss but know your dad would not want you to be hurting so please try and talk to someone about it. Maybe a vicar as they are good listeners.
Take care of yourself.
