I have dreamed of getting a college diploma. for over 50 years. I am 72 years old. I am taking 14 units this semester.I am not sure I can continue if I don't get some financial help. Does anyone know someplace where I can get a grant or scholorship. ?College is very expensive when you only have social security to live on. Any suggestions?

These scholorships are offered in a variety of fields. FastWeb is the name of the site. With the energy and drive that you maintain I am sure that you will succeed in anything that you desire!! Most colleges will give you a break if you go talk to the financial aid office. If I were you I would contact the local TV station and see if they would be willing to do a news piece on you as a fundraiser to pay for your college. At your age it is very admirable that you are going back to college and TV stations LOVE that kind of thing .. I am willing to bet that some businesss would come out of the woodwork to sponsor you in order to get the publicity ... you just have to ask. Start by calling a local TV station and ask to speak to their newsroom or the person in charge of their local news stories and then tell them your story and see if they would be willing to feature you in one of their news pieces ...

Good Luck with your studies!!

You should go to the financial aid office at the college you are attending, they should be able to look up some options for you.

AARP also has a program, but it is a loan service.

Contact the colleges where you want to apply and ask them for information on the type of scholarship that may be available to you.

I applaud you. That is great. I am 61 and want to go back to school, but am wondering how to do it. I have been a nurse forever and now I would like to be a vet tech or finish my degree in English. I will watch to see your answers. Rock on!!!

Have you tried asking? Go to the office and ask about it. Surely there is some type of senior discount or scholarship.
