What do you do when you feel discouraged or not very happy? You still have faith and you still feel things will work out, but days are less enjoyable and all of the struggles and obstacles discourage you. I am fairly new to a community and am having trouble finding a church and making friends. That is making it more difficult. I also am not employed yet. But certainly, even you church going Christians experience discouragement. What do you do to maybe relieve some of that discouragment or sadness?

Just keep believing that God is going to take care of everything. I like to read in my Bible and talk to God. I also like to take walks and see God's work in progress. I'm sorry you are feeling discouraged. Just hang in there.

personally what I do I sit back stop whatever I'm doing close my eyes and take a deep breath. Everything that I do not have control over has a purpose. Everything has a reason and a purpose. Sometimes we are faced w/ obstacles that we can not jump over but must go through it is those times when you have to have faith in yourself that you will be alright and that everything happens for a reason. God has a plan for us all but we can never find out what it is if we are too afraid to deal w/ reality.
When I sit back and take a deep breath I look up at the sky and let sun light hit me and think what a wonderful, beautiful earth God created for us. Seeing birds fly, hearing then chirp its a wonderful thing.
As for getting to know Christians in your community. Attend church and speak to the pastor I'm sure there's a welcoming group or something like that.
Good luck w/ your search for find a church.

1. Pray! Be realistic when you pray, too. Don't rely on generic "Dear Heavenly Father, blah blah blah, amen" stuff that other's write; instead, talk to God like you are talking to your mentor/best friend, and pour out your heart.

2. Reach out to people you know, especially your friends. God never said we have to go through tough times alone. We all need other human beings when we are having difficulties! If you haven't made any close friends where you currently live, call one from you old stomping grounds. The whole point is, you need at least one other person in your life.

3. If you want Christian fellowship, start going to different churches on Sunday morning. Try attending Sunday Schools also, and watch for Bible studies. While Sunday morning worship can be kind of isolationistic (no fellowship), the smaller meetings lend themselves to closer relationships. You can share your difficulties and find prayer and solace there.

4. Don't forget to try a Temp. agency on Monday morning. They are a really handy way to find work.

Peace.

Well my friend i can understand what you mean in the area im in ive live my whole life and still havent found a church or many christian friend i can relate to. The most comforting thing i do is talk with a member of my family who is always there to reassure me and consulting the Bible is also a very helpful thing if theres any specific problems your having do an internet search for what the bible says about it. Prayer is also one of the things you can do because you are never truely alone you always have The Lord Jesus with you wherever you are.

The sincere believers of the One True God don't see happiness in easy life or in satisfying their personal wishes. They realize that obedience to the teachings of the One True God is surely benificient to their souls, so they patiently go through all circumstances on earth with peace of mind.

"The aim of the appearance of the Blessed Perfection -- may my life be a sacrifice for His beloved ones! -- was the unity and agreement of all the people of the world. Therefore, my utmost desire, firstly, is the accord and union and love of the believers and after that of all the people of the world. Now, if unity and agreement is not established among the believers, I will become heartbroken and the afflictions will leave a greater imprint upon me. But if the fragrance of love and unity among the believers is wafted to my nostrils, every trial will become a mercy, every unhappiness a joy, every difficulty an expansion, every misery a treasure and every hardship a felicity."

I find some service to do for others. When you involve yourself in service you forget your problems. You also get to know people in the community. Volunteer somewhere until you find work. There are church sponsored thrift stores and food kitchens that can always use some help. Go to a retirement home and volunteer to read the Bible (or anything else) to the elderly.

What i do is when i feel discouraged. I take out my rosary prayer kit and start mediating. Like last Thursday when i was on my lunch break, i took out my rosary prayer kit and started praying quietly. But then one of the job coaches interrupted me on purpose. I told them later but they wouldn't take no for answer. Then when i got home, I felt discouraged and emotionally upset. I was crying my eyes out. But the next day was a new day and no one discouraged me or upset me. And there are 2 songs that are soothing. 1, There is a balm in Gilead. 2, You raise me up performed by Josh Groban. So prayer helps me overcome discouragement and soothing songs. And one other time my older brother was driving me to track & field practice and when i told him about me bringing gaterade, he told me that i shouldn't be drinking it. The way he said it wasn't encouragg. So when i got to the track field, i tried to run off my feelings of discouragement but it wouldn't leave me alone. By the time i got home, i just laid in my bed crying. But the next day, i forgot all about it and moved on.

I get on my knees and pray. I ask God to lift my spirit and give me peace in my heart. I also thank Him for all the things I do have in my life and for life itself. Pray about finding a good church home where you can make some friends in your new community. He will lead you to the right place.

There is nothing else one can due but pray and try all avenues at making yourself happy and go to church or ask a friend where is a good church. Get involved with some of your friends about job seeking and communication with them and perhaps some of your sadness will go away.
