You posted the question 8 minutes ago... I assume that you've stopped somehow. My answer probably won't be of any use to you.

This happened to me about a month ago, and I brought the car home safely, so I have a high degree of confidence in the following answer:

1. Continue pumping the pedal. Most often, when the brakes go out suddenly, it is due to overheating of brake components or of the brake fluid. By continuing to press the pedal slowly, you continue to pump fluid (and usually cooler fluid) into the system. (For me, it took about three pumps to get about 25% of my braking response back.)

2. Be ready to use the handbrake if necessary, remembering that the handbrake operates only on the rear wheels (the comment about "spin a cookie" has it right on the money).

3. If you must continue driving, reduce your speed and increase your following distance. You may find that as the car cools down, your braking effectiveness returns. If so, drive the car safely to where you can have the brakes inspected and repaired. You MAY need nothing more than new brake fluid; you should plan on replacing your brake fluid every two years. (And yes, I'm behind on replacing the fluid on the car that gave me trouble last month...)

Slowly apply you emergency brake, downshift into a lower gear and use engine compression to try and slow you down. If they fail you try to find a nice gentle place to drive off the road in a spot that you can turn the vehicle up hill. Watch out for trees and unseen ditches or streams.

Release accelerator and pull handbrake. If that fails, put gear to 1 and guide car to off road. Preferable brush against bushes or trees or something else to slow car down.

4) Blow the horn
