I was just wondering how strictly your everyday muslim observes the ban on alcohol. I know a lot of people in a lot of religions let one or two of the smaller things "slide". I know a lot of catholics use contraception, have sat down to bacon and eggs with jews and know short haired, meat eating sihks. I have also had quite a few beers over the years with muslims.
How common is that beer drinking in the muslim community and is looked upon as normal and indulged or horror?
Now I'm a firm believer in beer and think that we could all get along if we sat down and have a few. (PROPER beer that is - none of that mass produced **** like Bud-lite, Bud, Miller etc). Is there any chance of Islam "legalising" beer? (The other big advantage is the fundamentalist christians quite often don't drink, and the fundamentalist muslims wouldn't change so we could have our real ales in peace).

Judith - it could be because you're drinking the wrong beer. Get to Belgium, there's around 400 different beers in all kinds of styles.

Not everyone in the religion does what he or she is supposed to do. Alcohol does more good then bad. Ask anyone of any religion with an alcoholic in the family. Before I was Muslim I remember my drinking days. I was not an alcoholic, I was pretty much a weekend party drinker. Those days I can say I have many I am ashamed of, even if I was not a Muslim now I would be ashamed of them. I did things I never in my life would of done sober. Alcohol is not good and I am happy it is banned in Islam. And those who drink it will stand before God and God is just in His punishment.

well in islam beer is completely forbidden, ur not allowed it at all because it messes with ur mind and makes ur thinking unclear which could result in u doing some very bad unislamic things for instance some times when people get drunk they end up having one night stands and such without even realising it so beer and any other form of alcohol is forbidden for this reason however some muslims chose to ignore this and drink it anyway which is why u've probably had it with some of them.

When in the Middle East, I was frequently approached by (presumably Muslim) Pakistani immigrant workers attempting to buy spirits from me. Brits were the sole source of alcohol (via the mess or NAAFI shop) but I did not jeopardise our position by complying with their requests.

Your quite right, the last few years have seen somewhat of a liberalisation of the religious communities. Islam, although slower has been no different. There are plenty of Muslim lads in the UK who indulge in drink, drugs and sex, but In later life you will see them calm down, get married and become all religious again and bring up their children all religiously.

Beer is perfectly prohibited, as it contains intoxicant.
It is possible that some Muslims in Western countries drink beer. It is because they are not aware of Islam's stance on such beverage.
Or they are weak in faith.

Yes it is banned but there are some who do drink it. You can find some shops that sell beer in Is;lamic countries. They say it is for us filthy westerners but you seo the arabs buying it as well. it's well wrapped in news paper and put in a plastic bag very quickly.
They buy it and slink away.
They are not supposed to and a seen as very bad people.

Practicing Muslims are not allowed to consume alcohol at all because it's clearly stated in the Quran that alcohol is haram (prohibited in Arabic).
Having said that I do know Muslims who drink just for the fun of it... especially the young ones who are experimenting with everything. We all do things we know we shouldn't. That's why I mentioned "practicing" Muslims in the start.
Hope that helped :)
By the way, here's a saying from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about the consumption of alcohol :
"If anyone drinks wine Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents Allah will forgive him. If he repeats the offence Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents Allah will forgive him. If he again repeats the offence Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents Allah will forgive him. If he repeats it a fourth time Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, and if he repents Allah will not forgive him, but will give him to drink of the river of the fluid flowing from the inhabitants of Hell."
