First of all I think you're making a fine choice :) and courageous too... because these days, many people have negative ideas about Islam which you will find out are all untrue.

Read the Quran, read books by Harun Yahya or check out his website www.harunyahya.com

Get to know some practicing Muslims in your community, school, university, etc. and tell them about your intention and ask questions. Ask them everything and anything you want to know! It is your right.

Go on youtube.com, search Islam or Muslim convert... there are some very interesting videos but you will find both the good and the bad in there, I have to warn you.

No women are not inferior at all and if you try and leave the religion you will not be killed. In the Quran there is a verse saying something like .. Let there be no compulsion in faith.

Lastly, you can email me! :)

Peace be with you and good luck with that.

Women are KILLED for minor things like spousal infidelity and insufficient dowry.

There was an article in national geographic about this lately. Besides, what happens to islamic women in heaven? They get to sleep with a sweaty, unbathed, suicide bomber cabbie for all eternity?

The fact that Heaven is full of spotless virgins in Islam testifies to the view of women as property or objects. It would make more sense for you to want to become a dairy cow. At least then you would be treated better, to make more dairy cows and ice cream.

NO sensible woman would convert to islam. "Not without My Daughter" is another real life story you should investigate. Islam treats women little better than mules.

On the other hand, even emancipated american muslim women aren't willing to break from it. So it must have it's appeal. You should also look at amnesty international for evidence of further abuse against women (and even pets.)

Edit: Ajmal, women are a jewel? the prophet of Islam married a 9 YEAR OLD GIRL. Any court in the world (EVEN ISLAMIC) would call him a sex-offender/child molester. The divorce rate could be low because women who wish a divorce are killed, and those unfaithful (esp in Iran) are killed in bloody stonings. Often without a trial or even a defense council. Very civilized.

So perhaps it's much better to weather the abuses of a man who's faith tells him he can beat a woman to a degree, it's a gray area, and the fact is most authorities turn a blind eye to it. You only need to do a few web searches before the status of women's rights becomes apparent.

women in Islam are marginally better than dogs.

What do you mean, "I have heard a lot of bad things about Islam recently?" 9/11...HELLO! No, not all Muslim believers are vile and evil like the extremists but why on earth would you want to convert to a religion where the Holy Book 'can be' used to justify killing others in the name of a god?

I don't understand, I honestly don't, except that many people are turning to it in fear for their lives. Fear causes hate and hate death and I think that the Abrahamic offshoots are the worst. I feel so sorry for you.

Study life! Ultimately you are your own discovery. Faith is knowing when you have a discovery, a truth, insight, understanding, But we can not know it all. Faith does not require knowing it all. Faith requires so little. It is like knowing a piece of life, a flower of life or note of a song of life. But it is also very comfortable with not knowing or understanding it all, but with knowing acceptance, the saddest of acceptance we can know that it is a giving that counts, a forgiving and a rest.
Do not make any decision in a rush about religion. Religions come and go, life is us, and we endure by knowing just a small part of life. To Know is faith, faith in a sense of knowing that it will all work out no matter how contradicting it seems.
Don't join anything that suggests it is the only way. There is no "only way" in terms of faith.
Faith is knowing with a small "k" and knowing this is enough.

yes once you are a Muslim you are a Muslim for life, and theoretically if you try and stop being one any Muslim has the right to kill you. if you want to convert go ahead but get your information from as many sources as possible, not just Islamic ones. es specially read Islamic law codes as they affect women. the rights you will, or will not have over any children you have, your status in comparison with men, your reduced value in the eyes of the law, and so on. once you read these Islamic law codes it is unlikely any person raised in the west will freely convert to Islam unless they are very disillusioned or damaged. but if it makes you happy go right ahead.

if you are truly believe in Islam you will not fear the killing if u turned out of Islam, coz u wont be a Muslim unless you are sure that its the truth so why then u think of leaving Islam?if you are in heaven will you ask for going to hell?
make all your questions clear by reading the holy Quran so that you will be sure of what u do believe.

If I were thinking of converting to Islam, I would start my reading with the Koran. If you read it, it *should* answer your questions, I would think.
