I went to a salon that someone recomended to me. The person that recomended it to me had a nice hair cut and same texture of hair as mine. I was desperate to find a new stylist that would listen because the last stylist that cut my hair did a very bad job, weed whacker style. I waited several months to get some growth and then I decided to go to the new stylist. To make a long story short, she bragged to me how good she is and how she owns the shop. Once again, a stylist that did not listen to me and was talking on her cell phone cutting my hair, needless to say the cut came out not so good, she also left the color on my hair to long,my head was irritated and my scalp flaked later on. There is another stylist that works there,I noticed that she is very careful cutting hair and listens, doesn't talk on the phone and cut hair either. I plan on waiting SEVERAL months before doing anything with my hair. My question is really,do you think it would be okay to go to the other girl?

The stylist that did my hair was the owner. She sucks!

I had no problem speaking up to her,she had already wanted to do somethings I did not want, so I said no very clearly and told her what I did and did not want. I noticed that she did something to the back that I specifically told her not to do. Her with her scissors in my face and talking on the phone scared the hell out of me.

I did have a consultation and everything seemed fine. You can't control what they actually to do with the scissors though, that's the scary part. I'm actually afraid and don't trust anyone with scissors near my hair anymore.

I think you have done well by watching them before you allow them to touch your hair. I'm not too insane but I always will watch someone work before I allow them to mess with me. I understand that the person you went to was recommended, but I would have went 20 or thirty minutes early and took a sneak peak at what was what. If you saw this next person in action I think you should go there with confidence and ask for them. Stylists vary and even if you have the same hair, they will shape and design differently from person to person. I would mention that you saw their technique from before, you don't have to mention how or why, and say that you appreciated their work. Not only is it ok, but I would strongly recommend it. After all between all the waiting its gonna be a half a year for this to work out, your image is most definitely worth it obviously. Sorry bout the mess. Cheers

The place is irresponsibly run and the other girl might not be there in several months. The person who recommended it to you got lucky and luck shouldn't be what gets good service. There is an option of buying hair cutting equipment and having someone you know learn how to cut hair. That might work better than the people you have seen. Best would be to find a place that does a good job regularly. However, if you see the other girl in there and you don't have anywhere else in mind, you might get lucky by requesting her. Then again, you might get surprised in seeing she does the same thing when working on your hair as the other girl did.
We need more people like you in these places but you know what? You're talented enough to earn much more than hair stylists.

First,
before going to a stylist, ask to do a consultation. That way you get a feel for the person, and to see if the two of you have a common knowledge of what you want.
Second, I would have complained and gotten my money back.
Also, I would have jumped out of the chair the moment she was talking on the phone and cutting your hair. You are the CLIENT, speak up.
Try a place that you hear alot of get compliments about and also its not uncommon to go to one stylist who specializes in color and one in cutting.
Try a salon that has a both or if you want one , go to one.
But complain at that salon, call the head office and get your money back.
Don't pay for bad service.

I can relate finding a good stylist is really difficult. The first thing I have to tell you is... speak up! You are always entitled to be heard, especially if you are paying for a service. Now, be gentle and nice, because in that way, there is a chance that the rude stylist migth learn some manners by the way.
I also know that it is not easy to speak up for everyone. I used to be extremely shy, and people kept doing what they wanted around me, until I got sick of it,
In this case, for example, you should go to the salon, and ask for the other stylist, the good one... but first TALK to her, and if she begins with the "i dont care" routine, be polite, say thanks, and get the hell out of there! It is your hair, you image and your life.
And keep experimenting, always remember that hair grows, so even if you mess it up, you can always mend it, in a couple of months... wouldn't you wish that everything in life could be this simple?

So you had a bad haircut, Ok, tell the person that recommended the salon to you that you had a bad haircut and leave it at that. Then go and find your own. It is rather outrageous that the hairdresser was on the phone but maybe you are embellishing? Anyway, it's only hair

yeah, i do. it really irrates me that hairstylists think they can do all other sorts of things while they're working on your hair. many other jobs, people get fired for even talking on the phone. yet she screwed up your hair by not paying attention. i think going to the other stylist will not only get you a better cut, but it will make a point that you were dissatisfied with the first lady that cut your hair.

I suggest that you ask your other friends who have great hair where they get their haircuts done and next time if you are not satisfied with the service say something to the hairdresser or even better, the boss (e.g. talking on the phone while cutting someone's hair is not acceptable!). Good luck next time :)

I would go else wheres. Why chance it. If the owner lets someone like the one who screwed up your hair work there, she obviously does not care and has no standards and will hire anyone. Zillions of other places to go. Ask friends for a good recommendation.
