My brother is 5 and he puts lotion on himself. We're teaching him how to do things on his own. Just thought i'd share.

Hi Lotion, For pete sake,He is to old to like you put lotion all over his body. Has he every said anything to you about this!!! Let him put the lotion on hisself,He's a big boy now,so let him grow up.I have 2 daughter, and i stop with the lotion at 7yrs.old.They do that theirselves. If i would of tried to lotion them at 12yrs. They would had said something right off the bat.I raised my girls to be independed, and take care of theirself.I am proud of them both.So leave your son alone. He will be much happier if you do.

I'm a dad with 2 boys, one 10 the other 6.
At your childs age he should apply lotion himself...and really only if his skin is dry, from hard water or soap etc.
What you are doing at his age is not a good idea.
He needs his personal space with the upcoming changes,

I have to agree with the previous answerers. He is almost a teenager. At that age, your care must be seen as invasive. You sound like a very protective mother. However, it's part of your child's normal development to take more responsibility for his own body.
I suggest you leave the lotion with him. If he doesn't want to have it anymore, he can simply stop applying it. It may be difficult for you to accept, but an important part of your son's development to take control of his own body and decisions to be made with it. It is an important part of identity development. If you're constantly making decisions for him, that development will be stumped.
With the stated age of the child, I personally feel this is very inappropriate and potentially damaging.
Best of luck.

I stopped applying lotion to my children when they were 3 and 4 years old. Once they were able to show me they could do it all by themselves. They were big girls and very capable.
I recommend you let your son take over and apply the lotion himself. At this age he can certainly shower, brush his teeth, and other hygiene acts hes hes supposed to do.

Oh so funny!
Maybe you should stop putting lotion on him. He might wonder why you were putting lotion on him at 12, when he gets older. If your putting lotion on head to toe? YIKES! I hope you leave little peter out of it.

Yes I think hes old enough to do it himself.
I never did apply moisturizing lotion on either of my kids and both of their skins is beautifully soft.
Does he have a specific skin problem either way I think hes old enough to do it himself.

I unquestionably have a three 12 months previous and that's what i do for him now....yet while at 12 he's purely too lame to placed on his very own lotion then i might enable the sissy be ashy. Time to decrease the cord there mom.

I would have stopped at 8 ,has he got a skin problem because most kids don't need all over moisturiser ,I have a 6 year old with dry skin and I use a moisturising bubble bath from AVON ,it works.so I dont have to rub him all over. ,he is way too old for that he will be going throe puberty soon, this will then be a bit to weird .he can do it him self and should have been for years ,are you raising him to take care of himself ,that's your job as a mother ,to teach them to be able to take care of them selfs not be babys all their lives ,stop it now before you have a problem
