when he or his kids are treated rudely by others he can sure scare the heck out of them (throwing stuff, swearing and just in general, just his point across very strongly)... should I be worried?

He does have excellend conflict skills when he is approach respectfully..

OMG! You shouldn't be complaining!!
He is a strong, protective reasonable man!
He can stand up for you and demand an apology from rudeness very well!
Congrats for you!

Except...throwing stuff and swearing just makes him look Crazy!
Tell him to calm down and wreck the hell out of the opposition with his words, verbally by truth!!

There is an old saying. "If a person is nice to you and rude to the waither, they are not a nice person"

If a total stranger threw things at someone would you not be a little shocked and anxious to avoid them?
