the best cheese is to be determined at the party. Have everyone bring a selection of wine, and one of cheese. You provide glass ware, and other foods ect. Chocolate goes well with many red wines. The darker the better. Fruit is a great mix with both wine and cheese. Also an assortment of breads, crackers, and olives will help. Cleansing the palate between different wines is also part of the process, and foods help with this. Then at the party you ballot for best cheese and best wine. It's about opening up your taste palate and trying something new. Mostly having fun. Encourage each guest to bring a cheese they've never tried, or their personal favorite.

A cheese and wine party can have many items besides wine and cheese. You will usually find a variety of different cheeses (different cheeses taste better with different wines), fruit, bread, crackers, maybe a few light appetizers, and a dessert.
I'd recommend jack, cheddar, brie, and blue cheese. If you go to a cheese shop, they can suggest some more unusual cheeses though.

You definitely need a selection of breads with a good selection of cheeses. You could have a theme 'Cheeses of Nations' where there's prizes for the people who bring the most cheese from a particular country, or the greatest variety of countries. Just ask them to avoid bringing Limberger!!

You can have bread or anything else you want. It is just that cheese and wine are the main items.
