I went to the San Francisco Pizza Oven for dinner and they had some in the display case and it looked good. I used to work at an Italian yogurt shop where we had tiramisu-flavored gelato and it was good, but what is the real stuff made out of? What are the ingredients?

Title: TIRAMISU 2
Categories: Desserts
Yield: 1 servings

1 c Heavy cream
3 tb Sugar
1 L/2 cups ricotta cheese
1 c Sugar
1 c Sour cream
1/4 c Dark rum
-Ladyfingers
1 L/2 cups strong coffee
-Unsweetened cocoa
-for garnish, sifted.

Beat heavy cream with sugar until stiff. Set aside. Using same beater,
beat together ricotta, sugar and sour cream. Gently fold cream and cheese
mixes together; add rum. Line an 8 x l3 inch baking dish with lady fingers
that have been soaked with the coffee. Pour cream mix over the cake and
let sit at least 4 hours or overnight. When set, top with unsweetened
cocoa. This is from the Sacred Heart Church of Georgetown CT.

The authentic tiramisu (pick me up) calls for marscapone cheese, which is
relatively hard to get and expensive. I have found the following
substitute works well. Be sure you use firm or stale lady fingers so it
doesn't get mushy. From: Fred Towner Date: 08-03-93

Only a chocolate and coffee lover's dream come true. It's an Italian cake made of lady fingers, mascarpone, Tia Maria liqueur, cocoa powder, Van Santo, espresso coffee, white chocolate, etc. I'll give you the recipe. The cake is also available in many Italian bakeries.

Tiramisu
The best Italian dessert in the world.

Genoise sponge:
3 1/2 ounces (110 grams) caster sugar
4 eggs
1 3/4 ounces (50 grams) melted butter
3 ounces (85 grams) plain flour
1-ounce (30 grams) good-quality cocoa powder

Filling:
1 pound 1-ounce (500 grams) mascarpone
2 1/2 ounces (70 grams) caster sugar
2 egg yolks*
3.5 fluid ounces (100 milliliters) Vin Santo
4 to 5 shots espresso coffee
Tia Maria liqueur
3 1/2 ounces (110 grams) good-quality white chocolate, melted
Cocoa powder, for dusting
1 bar good-quality dark chocolate, for shavings

First make the sponge. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C /gas 4).

Whisk the sugar and eggs until they are at ribbon stage. Fold in the melted butter, then fold in the sifted flour and cocoa. Pour the mixture into a lined Swiss roll tin and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Remove the sponge from the oven when it is done and leave to cool.

To make the filling, put the mascarpone, sugar, egg yolks, and Vin Santo into a bowl and mix until smooth.

To assemble the tiramisu, break up the sponge and press it into the bottom of a shallow dish. Drizzle over the coffee, Tia Maria, and white chocolate. Spoon over the mascarpone filling, then dust liberally with cocoa. Using a large knife, scrape the chocolate towards you to make shavings and arrange these delicately over the top.

Tiramisu is a cool, refreshing Italian dessert that once tasted, leaves an indelible impression on you.

The basic ingredients are eggs, mascarpone cheese (a triple-creme cheese. It's made from the milk of cows that have been fed special grasses filled with herbs and flowers. This special diet creates a unique taste that has been described as fresh and delicious) , ladyfingers (known in Italy as "savoiardi" -- are sweet, little, fairly dry, finger-shaped sponge cakes), cream, espresso coffee, liquor (such as brandy, marsala, rum) a little bit of sugar, and cocoa or shaved chocolate.

It's a delicious Italian dessert made with little crisp cookies soaked in espresso and layered with a rich mascarpone cream. I have a recipe to make it on my website.

Tiramisu is an Italian dessert typically made from Lady Fingers, espresso coffee, mascarpone cheese, eggs, cream, sugar, marsala wine, cocoa and rum. The name tiramisù means "pick-me-up", referring to the two caffeine-containing ingredients, espresso and cocoa.

(I personally think it's good.)
