It depends on the dog, and if it's an inside dog or outdoor dog. Please give us a little more information.
Most folks feed once a day, which is fine, but we like to give our dogs enough "fuel" to stay healthy 24/7. .
We run a shelter, and feed twice a day, lightly. All of our animals have immediate access to 14 acres, so poop isn't a problem. Most of our animals are older animals rescued from pounds, inactive, with many medical problems due to age. We've found that two light meals a day keep them going.
We give them a good breakfast to get them started, but not ridiculous amounts. We have a few that would eat until they pop.:-) During the summer, they also get a very light dinner. They don't eat much because of the heat.
During the winter, it does get cold here in North Florida, in the teens, and even tho they have heated housing, we still give breakfast AND food at night. It's their choice if they want to eat it, and most do.
We give them excellent dog food, like BilJac, which has so much nutrition that they don't require enormous amounts like they do with the grocery brands. It's more expensive but more nutritious and a lot less waste.
I'm sure you'll get lots of varying answers, but this is what works for us. We would hate to be fed only once a day :-) so we don't do it to the dogs.

It depends on the size of the dog. If large to very large, then feed twice a day. It will lessen the chances of bloat, which can be deadly to dogs. It can happen by gulping down food ( or water ) really fast and getting excess air into the stomach. If they are not "realy really hungry" they'll slow down the eating process a little and lessen the chances.

It depends on the size of your dog as well as activity and metabolism levels to determine how many times. Mine get fed once a day, and get snacks. I do this because I need to keep the weight down on mine due to possible back problems in the breed (Dachshunds). If you have a larger dog, you may opt to feed them twice a day.

Depends usually twice a day in the morning and at night. Not to keep them quite or everytime they act like they're starving or your dog will be so obese he won't be able to get around very well. And it ain't healthy to over feed your pet. So only feed him twice a day or ask your vet.

It is best to give them 1 properly sized portion (read the packaging of the dog food for advice) per day.
However, if you have a big dog that burns lots of energy you may wish to give it 2 smaller portions daily.
Ensure they always have access to food and water.

dogs get the most nutrients from their food if fed twice per day..Or free fed, (dry food left in bowl in small enough amounts that it is eaten daily) if weight isn't an issue..

One time early morning to make sure there are no accidents in the house at night time. Snacks up til bed time is ok as long as they are pig ears or chews.
