Some people think that if someone's an atheist, then he or she is also a satanist. Some people are like that.

What I don't understand is how a person can say he or she is an atheist and yet believe in satan. Doesn't atheism basically mean that there is no belief in any higher power? Wouldn't someone need to believe in god to believe in satan? I'm just not getting that concept. Why would someone believe in satan but not god?

the reason i ask this is because i was reading through questions an answers here on our beloved yahoo answers, and i saw someone who proclaimed himself to be both atheist and satanist. me being an atheist, i don't understand that at all. i figured if i saw one, there must be others out there.

if you're an atheist, you neither believe in God or Satan. Religious people, being offended by atheists' non-belief in God, will label them with Satanism, whom is the enemy of God

I'm an atheist, which means I do not believe in a Creator, nor do I believe in Satan. In all honesty, I have never met an actual Satanist, and I doubt I ever will.

I don't think Satanism is actually a religion that worships Satan, but an atheistic philosophy of sorts. So yes, it is possible to be an atheist and a satanist at the same time. kak got it right, imo.

I am an atheist too. And satanism and atheism are not the same. It is true that you cannot be both, because as you said atheism is not believing in higher power.

Atheists do not normally believe in Satan. I do not know any atheist who is a Satanist.

That lie comes from bible doctrine that claims anyone who is not following the Bible God is following the Bible Satan.

Generally people that are satanists don't believe in god or satan, so they are like atheists. Satanists are basically atheists that put their own interests first. You could read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satanism for more information.

Maybe it's a "lower power"? ; )

All I know is myself as an 'atheist' and other non believers don't believe in a satan... Anyone that does is not really an atheist.

I haven't heard of anyone believing in satan but not god. It does indeed make no sense to believe in satan without god.

I agree, but do you really know people who claim to be satanist atheists? Because I don't. And of course, I mean well-centred adults, not just rebellious teens who will claim things just without really knowing what they're talking about. (And before anyone tells me anything, I mean those particular teens. NOT ALL or even most of them).
