Our generation has to stop poverty, coz if we dont take any step further, I am damn sure our future generations will care more for themselves rather than of the Poors. The necessary steps that eevery government in this world takes is just 2 to 3 % when compared to the rest of 97-98% of poverty in this whole world. Let everyone answer this question, coz it could activate an Alarm to help the Poor whenever and Wherever possible. All ur comments will someday make u help the helpess. It is an issue that could be easily stopped once and for all. SO WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?

Sadly, governments are very important in ending mass poverty. Here in the US, politicians could care less about the poor.

When Bush got us straddled with over a trillion dollar deficit through his war/military and other spending, the first thing they did was cut programs to the poor---in December, congress passed the reverse Robin Hood bill, cutting 50 BILLION dollars from food programs like WIC, school lunches, food stamps, etc, housing programs, child support enforcement (divorce is a leading cause of poverty plunging women and their children into poverty), veterans benefits, hospitals, and salaries (many vets come from the ranks of the poor), health care (43 million have no health insurance), and many other programs.

Presumably this was to cut down the deficit. It isn't enough the poor send their kids to die or lose limbs on the battlefield, now they must finance the war also while the rich make no sacrifices and don't send their kids.

Only three weeks later, congress turns around and gives the rich 70 BILLION in tax cuts...showing that the cuts to programs that help the poor were only done to offset the rich people getting more money via tax cuts. They took from the poor (who needed it) to give to the rich (who didn't need it) and then some.

How were they able to get away with this? It was because the American people had shown their distain and hatred years before for people on welfare..a program that primarily helped poor and fatherless children and enabled their mothers to stay home and rear them and thus give these children, who often lived in impoverished areas, a better chance of turning out well which benefits society.

When the government saw that people not only begruged these kids the money but actively hated their mothers, they realized the poor were the easiest targets for budget cuts as noone goes to bat or them and they have no lobbyists.

Personally, I say shame on people who did that as they forget-- for all their moralizing and talk about moral values--that they violate the one value they will be judged on...how they treat the least among us.

Easily be stopped? No. In a sense, today's democracy practically requires poverty. You may be able to get everyone off the streets, provided they all WANT to be off the streets, but not everyone can be rich.

And just think of the gigantic expense on one thing, when there are so many other problems out there.

It is never going to happen. As long as there are greedy governments who believe in divide and rule there is going to be poverty. Poverty is used as a means by the rich and the politicians to keep themselves in power. You can scream and shout and yell all you want. It is not going to change.

It's never going to happen. You would be fighting a lost cause. Communism tried getting rid of it by making all equal. And look at Cuba. I would consider it a 3rd world country.

Just let poverty be, it is a part of life.

DARWINISM

yes..u r right..we hv 2 stop poverty and thats exactly what my idea was,too..but u see..we r so selfish..everyone is..do u expect someone to part with their costly dress or even money when they see someone ppor on the road? we r too selfish..we think abt our own self..we gather 4 ourselves...money,assests, properties..everything..just 4 ourselves and our offspriong..no one even cares whats going on in the society..everyone has to b educated abt this..the danger thats spreding around us n that should b done immediately done..it must start 4m an individual..not 4m the government or someone else..everyone must feel that responsibility..so that we can hv a brighter future..soon

If we worried more about what was going on in this country and helping those who live here we might stand a chance but until that happens I dont think it is possible but that is just my opinion

well... write a letter to Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Conrad Hilton.... and all the other billionaires in the nation... and ask them if they'd like to help contribute to eradicating poverty in the US.

My guess is, you won't be getting any letters back.

poverty is required...it draws together a political base...it helps people feel discriminated against...there are always people with more money...and it is easier to whine about how little you have, rather than get a job.

the way to stop poverty is to educate people more.... have more jobs and crack down harder on drugs such as cocaine and heroin the ones that are truly addictive....but what the world needs is better education for people who need it the most

Yes we can, but it will NEVER happen,so many people could help, and don't. I could write a book about this, so I just will say that.
