Do you have any other sleep problems? Snoring? Pauses in breathing? Morning headaches? Excessive daytime sleepiness? If you have snoring or any other sleep problems you may have sleep apnea. I would get checked for allergies if negative for other sleep problems. Sometimes simple things like a pet laying next to you in bed may be causing the congestion. Checking the bedroom for pollen, animal dander, dust mites mold etc. is also a good idea. I would not put anything up my nose such as allergy nasal sprays until I KNEW my congestion was due to allergies and my dr. recommended one. Nasal sprays can be very addicting and often exacerbate the problem.

If you have allergies a steroid nasal spray
flonase, nasocort would help.
there are nasal band aides breath easy that work but they end up being expensive
there are plastic nasal prongs that are reusable which work and are cheaper
decongestant nasal spray works short term but after a bit ( maybe as short as one week ) they cause nasal congestion.
If you are using decongestants this may be your problem ( rhinitis medimentosum)
the reason this is worse at night is because the hydrostatic pressure in your head and nasal passages is higher when you lay down.

You probably have a lot of dust or mold in your bedroom. Check the window sill in your room to see if there is any "black dust" on it. If there is, you have a mold problem. Otherwise, get an air purifier.
