Why remove a wisdom tooth?
http://www.members.aol.com/swf08302/wizdk.jpg shows one reason. This is what can happen by the time you are 40 or 50 if you leave a wisdom tooth in place when it is impacted. The red arrows on the x-ray show the grey area that has decayed due to the wisdom tooth being present under the gum. The tooth shown is the exact same tooth shown in the x-ray, but turned so you can see the cavity. Food and bacteria can get down there and you can't clean it out. Eventually, it makes a cavity in the tooth next to the wisdom tooth and makes it so you have to have BOTH teeth removed.

i had a terrible case of wisdom tooth (upper) - on top of my other teeth and impacted, the gums needed to be opened (yuckss!). there was no space for it to come out. i couldn't sacrifice my regular tooth too and how can i be so sure that it will come down. the wisdom tooth was surgically removed/extracted. healing was not difficult. it will take less than a week. if you allow it to stay up there, it will surely cause trouble in the future even if it doesnt hurt now. the younger you are, the better time for it to be removed so that the root of the wisdom tooth is not that strong. it gets more stubborn the longer you leave it there. if it comes out and impacted, have it removed because it will surely push other teeth and alignment will get ugly overtime.

They will find a way to come in and will eventually ruin or destroy your other teeth.
I just had all my 4 wisdom teeth pulled last month and they said if i let them stay in, it would affect and push the other teeth in odd directions.

The wisdom teeth will not stay up there. When it is their time to come in, they will come in. If there is not enough room, you may have to have four teeth removed so there will be enough room. Or you may have to have the wisdom teeth removed. I had to have four teeth removed and my wisdom teeth removed when they came in. When I had the four removed, I had to get braces because when there is not enough room, they push your other teeth up to the front and they end up every which way.
Sometimes wisdom teeth get impacted -- there is no room for them to come through or they cannot get through -- an oral surgeon will remove them.
