Your brain is very active while you're asleep. It's normal for things to feel very real when you're asleep since it's your brain that detects all sensations when you're awake, so when you're sleeping it's the same, except your brain creates the sensations instead of recieving them from the exterior. But if it feels MORE real... then you're in trouble.

I respectfully disagree with LKP--just because your sleeping awareness (or dreams) feel more real than when you're awake doesn't necessarily mean you're in trouble. Many wisdom traditions question the nature of reality. Certainly our perceptions of reality can vary a lot, so if your waking experiences don't seem that "real" to you, that's ok, unless you're not able to function, in which case seeking some assistance would be useful.
Vivid dreams are highly valued in many cultures. You might want to consider starting a dream journal. Place a journal beside your bed, and write in it before you get out of bed each day. Dreams that are related to events in your waking life aren't considered very significant in the yogic tradition (they're useful because your mind is taking care of things that you weren't able to process while you were awake, but not significant in terms of receiving guidance for your waking experience.) If you have dreams that aren't related to events in your waking experience, especially if they occur in the early or middle part of your sleep cycle, yogic wisdom advises you to pay close attention. There are many parts to your mind, and your inner wisdom may be guiding you in these dreams.

Because when you sleep, you are closer to your true state; that is, you are focused away from physicality...your true state is mind. You are not a body, you are free, and formless, and perfect, as your Creator.
