well, i'm not all that old, i guess i am more of a teen than a woman, but I never really felt that. I would think that if he held a door open for you or something, you feel that he noticed you in some way for something good that you have, like maybe he thinks you're pretty and he's trying to show you he's nice, or he just feels nice that day and it means nothing. When someone holds a door open for me, regardless of age, even if he's old like 50 years old, I always smile and say thank you and feel i guess nice inside because of that for some reason. I didn't know that people get uptight about it.

Well Edward...not all American women are like that. The ones that are (and I too have noticed) are the ones who have no home training and simply don't know their place when out in public. The younger generation has not been taught to be graceful or respectful. They are not accustomed to men doing such things as there are so few true gentlemen left in the world. The next time a female rolls her eyes at you for a kind gesture simply reply, "I'm sorry if I offended you - I miss-took you for a Lady. '

I always try to thank the man who holds a door for me and I also try to hold the door for men as often as possible I don't get defensive at all I really like a little chivalry it keeps me believing my place in this world I like being a girl nothing better than knowing that with a little search and luck someday I will never have to open another door. I smile back cause you never know who just entered your life and for what reason.

I too think it as being gentlemanly I appreciate it if a guys holds open the door for me that way it shows that they have manners. If women are doing this to you it's probably because they don't know what proper manners are. I'm sorry you've had to deal with that, but keep doing it trust me there are women out there that do appreciate it. Thank You!

She's just a stuck up ***** then. That's rude. I find it very polite and charming when a man opens the door for me or smiles. It's flatterering although I am not attracted to him, who cares-it's still a nice gesture. Women with bad attitudes like that just have low-self esteem issues. Ignore them lol

Well you are a true gentleman, which is VERY hard to find these days, and girls like me appreciate men like you, so keep doing what you do best, being a nice guy. Seriously anyone who doesn't appreciate your kindness doesn't deserve your time anyways. People are rude these days, and people need to learn some manners like smiling, please, thank you, etc. Don't worry about it and just continue to be yourself and be the better person if people don't have the common courtesy to acknowledge your good deeds. :)

Women can't be too careful about who we interact with. There are a lot of reasons not to be too friendly to men we don't know, especially if they're going out of their way to be nice to us. And hey, maybe you are ugly, I've never seen you, so how am I to judge?

they probably feel youre trying hitting on them. when a girl gives you this look, shes showing you that shes not interested at all in you. maybe she feels youre trying to get into her pants when youre trying to be polite to her. next time, some girl gives you one of those looks, just say "im sorry, i didnt mean to offend you, i was just trying to be polite" american women really arent used to that kind of politeness so they take it the wrong way.

I appreciate gentlemanly behavior. I think some women have issues with it because they are overly afraid of letting men help them--they think that this makes them weak. I say keep doing what you're doing and if women don't appreciate it, tough for them!
