Mark 16:16 says either worship our god or burn in Hell. If that doesn't sound like a cult then i don't know what does.

Why can't Christianty be loving and accepting like Atheism? Why does everything in Christianity have to be so black and white?

Papaofgirlmegan,

What proof do you have that satan is real? I'd love to see the evidence. Oh, and claiming that, "well, it's in the bible" isn't evidence.

Satan is fake, just like god and jebus.

Christianity is a cult. No bones about it.

I think you misunderstand what a cult is.

You make very hasty generalizations that all of Christianity is not loving while all of Atheism is loving. I know many atheists that hate me because I am a Christian. It is a value system that has no gray area. However, I will not say that all Atheism is hateful. So why do you do level this accusation against Christianity?

It is true that Christianity does not regard the world in relativistic terms, but believes that their is objective right and wrong. It is in the face of the black and the white that the Christian ideally is called to love.

You confuse love and acceptance. It is not loving for me to accept someone's heroin addiction. In fact it is the opposite of loving to do so. It is directly because I despise the person's heroin addiction that I best demonstrate my love for that person.

This is an important point that I would like you to email me about if I present it in a confusing manner. Acceptance is not the same as love. There are things to disaprove of and fight against in this world.

Take 3 men who live in a rundown old town that they all love for sentimental reasons.
First man: I love this town no matter how run down it gets because I accept it for what it is.
Second man: I cannot accept how run down and changed this town is and therefore choose to hate it.
Third man: I love this town, but hate what it has become.

Who truly loves the town? Obviously the second man no longer loves the town because he cannot accept it. This is where most non-Christians place Christians. They think Christians just hate what they don't accept.
The first has a false love hiding behind acceptance. He will cause no change for the better because he cannot move himself to love the town enough to hate it.
The third causes change because he loves his town so much he is willing to not accept what he believes is wrong in what the town has become. This is the ideal of Christianity. That we are called to hate that which is wrong in the world and simultaneously love the world intensely enough to change it for the better.

Atheists or Christians or whomever hides behind the superficial veil of acceptance does not truly love anyone or anything precisely because this stance paralyzes them to change anyone or anything for the better.

Those who say there is wrong and right are allowed to cause change in the world by hating that which is wrong and countering with an inflamed love for how things can be right.

Christians believe belief in God is right and that those who do not believe will go to hell. You misunderstand this to be a direct condemnation by the Christian. It is not. It is merely the consequence of non-belief according to the faith. If a Christian were to say keep your hand out of the fire or it will burn is exactly how a Christian says believe in God or burn in Hell. We are not condemning you to burn your hand in the fire, nor are we condemning you to hell.

That's a good question.

I'm neither Christian or Atheist, but I do notice that Christianity is a rather un-yielding religion. I have often seen persons claiming to be Christian, use fear tactics to ensure that those of us who have not conformed to their ideals, are threatened with certain everlasting hell. The God they worship is a God of love and Jesus himself taught Love and non-judgment of others. Yet somehow the threat of hell.....scares the Christians so much that they must ensure that the rest of us are afraid of the "freedom of will", that God gave us and we choose to use.

Cults are described as using fear and control to maintain their followings.....so, I guess it could be categorized that way.

Not sure what your definition of a cult is, but everything is black and white in Christianity because right and wrong exist. We can't just wish something we don't like weren't true.

Christianity is a cult. All bible based religions are cults.

They cannot be tolerant because they rely on demonizing others for their existence.

How could Christians & Muslims convert people if people were not convinced they needed to be "saved" from their loving, merciful God who will torture us for an eternity if we don't convert?

All religions are technically cults, not all cults are necessarily the really scary ones we think of, but they still all start out as "cults"...the only thing that changes it is the number of people. They gain enough followers and it's eventually considered a legitimate religion.

Because you have a choice to be a Christian or not. No one is forcing you into with a loaded gun in your face. See the difference. It is called free will.

"loving and accepting like Atheism"???
What forum have you been reading?
The judging and condemning comes from all sides on this site.
I have read that Christians are brainwashed, stupid, weak minded, and emotional. Doesn't sound very loving to me.
