I think you're missing the problem here. If you are sitting at your computer asking cyberspace what is and is not good exercise, you would be better off if you went and paced the floor talking on your phone. But, since that wasn't the question.....

I'm a 19 year old athlete....I run 2 to 4 miles multiple times a week, I lift weights, and I supplement my regular diet with Protein and vitamins. But my favorite activity is golf. If you aren't running regularly, or doing some sort of work out, then yes, golf is an excellent workout. The average course in my area is a little over 6 thousand yards in length, just tee to middle of the green, not accounting for hills. So if you walk the course, and play the ball straight down the middle of the fairway every time, you still walk more than three miles every nine holes, and if you have enough energy to walk 18, its like seven miles, but here's the fun part.....most people who don't know whether or not golf is good exercise won't be playing the ball down the middle. If you aren't going to break 100 in your 18 hole round, you're going to be walking 8 or 9 miles (or more).....Is that enough of a workout? I think so.....and thats if you were just walking. Add into that 100+ reps of strenth/flexibility exercises for the upper body, midsection, and lower body (aka the swing), and you have a hard workout for the average American. Now add to that carrying your bag, and you have yourself a decent workout, even for Chuck Norris. If you are just looking to lose a little extra weight, and enjoy golf, walk 36 holes a week....I'll guarantee you boost your metabolism, just so your body produces enough energy to push you through the round. But more important than that, HAVE FUN. The hardest part of any workout is keeping it fun. The great part about golf is that you're bound to enjoy yourself, even if you just hack at your ball and chase it down to do it again.

Is Golf Good Exercise

If you walk, an average course requires about six miles of walking. If you ride a cart, you have to get in and out of the cart many times and still do quite a bit of walking and bending. If you shoot 100 and take a couple of practice swings for each shot minus the putting strokes, you are twisting and turning your body while swinging a golf club 180 times. You are bending over and placing or picking up your ball close to 100 times. Add the effort of just being outside in the heat, cold, wind, or rain for about 5 hours, and you're getting a pretty good workout. Walk 3 miles on a treadmill, do 100 toe touches, and do 180 rapid upperbody turns with a 1 pound weight in each hand, and see if you get a work out.

Yes, you are using alot of muscles when you swing a golf club and if you walk the course you are using energy there too. I took a golfing class a few semesters ago and I would be sore after class. When I go to the driving range I get tired also. It's hard work.

The easiest way to learn golf like a pro is by following "The Simple Golf Swing" program. It's primarily a 31 page eBook that teaches golfers how to make solid contact with the ball, how to avoid hitting fat, how to avoid slicing, how get more power, accuracy, and consistency in your swing. Consistency being the number 1 golf skill.

You not only get the eBook though, you also receive a ton of extra material including video, lessons on putting, driving, chipping, sand play etc. Here is their official site: http://www.golfswingguru.net

a average game of golf takes about 3 to 31/2 hrs for 18 holes, thats playing with 3 other players, walking and swinging a club for that period of time has to be good for you.
