Anyone can call themselves a Christian but that doesn't mean that they are really following Christ. Just like the Pharisees who followed all the bits of the Law but whose hearts were far from God, some people think that showing up on Sunday and warming the pew is all they have to do.
On a similar note, the teaching that one's salvation can't be lost (but certainly gets thrown away) is dangerous. These are some of the same people who will fill the pews on Sunday but then live like the world the rest of the week because they've got "security." That's not how it works. The first link below is a great article on the heresy of "once saved, always saved." Jesus said all people would know His disciples by their love (John 13:35), not by how often they showed up at church.

Just becuase someone goes to church doesn't necessarily mean they're good christians are kind, open-minded, compassionate people. Many of them attend church as simply a sort of social event, where they can dress up and be seen by friends and socialize. Others go because they feel that they should, or maybe they were raised in a churchgoing family and feel they need to continue with it.
To me, being spiritual is much more important than being religious. Being spiritual consists of feeling in touch with, and having a close relationship with your chosen higher power, and having a sense of belonging in this world. I think that alot of churchgoers lack that.
Like George Carlin once said: "More people are finding spirituality all the time. They're leaving the churches ini droves."

There are a lot of churchgoers that are very judgmental of other people. They seem to be more worried about what other people are doing rather than look at their own lives. A true christian does not judge other people...some may step in to give advice but to sit there and criticize other people----not right!!!! i hear ya bud

Because some or should I say alot of people have lost sight that the bible states a church is a gathering of two or more people. They think of it as more of a money maker and a way to get people sucked in to open up their waletts. They have convinced themselves and others that this is for the grace of God. They have lost the true meaning and have really been taken over by one the 7 sins.....greed.

I doesn't matter what fath the person is, some times we all judge outhers before getting to know them. On what they wear, look like, kind of music they listen to, or even what kind of work they do. For me to be a good Christian is to except the person for what they are and let God to judge them and not me.

I think most of the people who GO to church feel that all of their sins are forgiven as long as they show up every Sunday.
That's why I gave up on organized religion--I have never EVER felt the Lord in a church.
But ya know what? Every time I go to my garden, and get my hands into the dirt, and touch the roots of a plant, I feel God to every cell of my being.
He DOES exist---but he stopped going to churches, too.

it's not that church goers are superficial...it's a situation where superficial people go to church.
There would be just as many superficial people out there whether they went to church or not...and they would be just as judgmental of others as they are now...makes no difference.

ya know. I was gonna give my two cents in, but after reading the thoughtful answers, i'll just say I agree with those I have read so far...and yes I did learn something....
alot of them are judgemental.... but i dont do organized religion.... i find God in the air, the breeze and when i pray... i have knee problems and cant be on my knees, and so i dont kneel.... but I find God in the strangest places.... and I am glad He had found me!
