The best thing to do is go to your veterinarian and purchase either Advantage or Frontline. The Advantage is the cheapest and takes care of just fleas. The Frontline is a little pricier but is more waterproof. The trick is to use the product for at least 3 months in a row to cover the flea's life cycle. If there is more than 1 pet in the house, they should all be treated for three consecutive months also. After you apply the medication, you need to thoroughly vacuum your house, under furniture, on furniture, and wash bedding. If the fleas are infesting your house (if they are jumping on and biting you) you may need to bomb it. If that is the case, just carefully read the directions on the back of the bottle. Every type is different. Fleas are a nasty problem especially this time of year. Getting the problem under control may be a little expensive but Advantage and Frontline can be used as a preventative also. Ask your veterinarian.

i would agree with everyone else that answered. garlic and brewer's yeast probably work ok. flea baths are good for a while. but you'll save time and aggravation just by putting your dog on Frontline Plus.

The Frontline Plus works on ticks as well. Treat your dog once a month by emptying one of the vials on a spot of skin between his front shoulders---that's all there is to it.

Within 48 hours all the fleas and ticks should be dead--and any that bit your dog and then jumped off won't reproduce. Frontline interferes with some enzymes that juvenile fleas need to mature--so the parents lay the eggs, eggs hatch, grow a bit and then because they don't have the necessary enzymes to pupate, they die. Woo hoo!

Frontline is the best way to go.

For under $10 you can get a dog flea comb. BUT, you will have to comb your dog EVERY single day until winter freezes the fleas. As you are combing your dog, you will bring up the fleas on the comb. IMMEDIATELY, dunk the comb in warm, soapy water. It will kill the fleas. BUT, for about $35 or so dollars, you can get Frontline Plus as your vet. You don't need to have an exam or anything. You can buy it over the counter at ANY vet. It lasts about 3 whole months. You'd be much better off than that. It's a whole lot easier than combing the animal every single day. It works and is definitely worth the money. I hope you try it.

I agree with the person who said the flea comb

Collect the fleas in the comb and put into a container with boiling hot salted water it really does work tryit and your dog will enjoy the physical contact as well

Not really unless you keep him indoors and fleas around you arent bad then no there is not. I use Sentenel depending on the size of your dog is the price its the only acurate method that works for me it works in the blood stream and kills adult fleas so they dont lay eggs and it also works as a heartworm you can use that with Frontline Plus and it should get rid of them as far as shampoos Adam's is real good it has a menthol in it that kills the fleas.

ALMOST ALL OF THESE ANSWERS ARE CORRECT. FRONTLINE IS THE BEST IN IT'S PRICE RANGE. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE PACKAGE. TO BE APPLIED AT LEAST 3 DAYS AFTER BATHING YOUR DOG OR NO BATHING FOR AT LEAST 3 DAYS AFTER YOU APPLY. THE OILS IN YOUR DOGS COAT DISTRIBUTE THE MEDICINE OVER THE ENTIRE BODY SO IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO NOT BATHE DURING THAT TIME FRAME. TO GET THE FULL EFFECT YOU SHOULD SPRAY THE OUTSIDE AREA YOUR DOG IS IN AND USE A FLEA BOMB IN YOUR HOUSE. IF YOUR DOG DOESN'T COME IN YOUR HOUSE, YOU DO, AND YOU MAY PICK UP FLEA EGGS ON YOUR SHOES AND TRACK THEM IN. ALSO FLEAS DO JUMP ON HUMANS TOO!

garlic pills work to keep them away as a home remedy. get them at walmart and disolve two in the food i have had this work, but you need to do something else such as fumigating if it is an inside dog, you can also use over the counter flea medicines along with flea bath shampoo....good luck

You can bathe your dog with a bar of Ivory soap, or Dawn dish soap..and leave the soap on for 5 minutes..then add 1/4 cup of any vinegar or lemon juice to one gallon of warm water to use as the final rinse..
Of course, if you don't get them off the propery or out of the house, they will come back by next week..
I prefer the newer flea prevention, REVOLUTION..It prevents heartworm, most internal worms, fleas/ticks, ear mites, mange mites...You can get it at your vets, and becasue it is new, the vets are encouraged to give the fist month's dose for free..It is a liquid spot-on-skin treatment..

Like the other people are telling you , you need to use "Frontline"
I paid $34.00 at my vets for it......You get three (3) little vials of it.
You apply one on the bottom of the dogs neck on top, then go down the spine by three inches......apply the rest...
(You will apply one next month same date, then a month later for the third application.) Within 1 hour, the fleas will work their way down to the butt area..............It will drive the dog nuts, but its ok......We always placed our dog in the tub, used a dog brush lightly, and worked them out.............You may find blood too because fleas are eating your dog...........After 10 minutes we ran warm water with dog shampoo and gave fido a bath.....Then we patted him dry and used a hair dryer on him...He loved it!!.

Has the inexpensive stuff worked for you so far? NO! Just spend the money to help your poor dog be comfortable.
