Exellent point. Jesus was tolerant of and accepted those who society had cast out while he consistently castigated those who were convinced of their own righteousness and holiness. Also, in response to Mortgage above, Jesus never said anything about homosexuality. Paul does in Romans and I Cor., and I Tim. also references it. However, there is much speculation in the academic community as to whether or not these words mean 'homosexual' as opposed to 'male temple prostitute, pedophile,' etc. Thus, homosexuality may not even be referenced at all in the N.T.
Excellent question!!

He was tolerant long enough to tell them the Good News. He did say "Go, and sin no more." to the prostitute. He did not continue hanging out with the same people if they had no interest in learning right from wrong and changing their lives. At that point, I think He became more intolerant. He was intolerant with arrogant people. Although, He loved everyone and gave ALL a chance without judging them....they had to have hearts that wanted to repent. If they were people that were craving to learn from Him and to get "right" He was there for them all day and night, and a lot of Christians are the same way....and if these people were not this way, then we pray for them.

The Jesus you know is the Jesus I know, too. Though I am a Hindu, I still honor Jesus (called Yeshu by most Hindus, Isa or Isha by other Hindu sects that honor him).
Gandhi said "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." I know another Hindu teacher who said "Christians seem to miss a lot about Christianity. They miss or ignore the greatest parts of their own teachings while emphasizing the worst parts." I have a friend who has studied many religions and said to me once "the Christianity I studied and came to understand...the Jesus I read about and learned about...it isn't the same Christianity that is practice and the Jesus they (Christians) worship isn't the same Jesus I read about. How could I want to convert to Christianity when I can clearly see the contradiction between it's teacher and those who claim to follow his teachings?"

He was extremely tolerant of the "Prodigals" but he was not tolerant of their sin. They always repented (means to turn and go the other way).Zachieus the tax collector repented,Matthew(Levi) repented,The "worldly women"repented,to the adulterous woman he said "Go and sin no more"to the guy he healed at the pool of Bethesda He said "Sin no more least a worst fate befall you".etc etc etc....
Jesus was loving and tolerant, but not to sin.He wasn't some Hippie to show us a cool way to live ,Man.To anyone who would hurt a child (pervs and otherwise) He said "It's better for them to tie a stone on their neck and jump into the sea than to face Me."

Or...
you only know him from a book.
Jesus can be very tolerant. Or, very intolerant. It all depends on the person in question. People are not the same.

do you know what loving your neighbor means? if his house is on fire, and you look in his window and there he is, all comfortable and happy do you tell him and ruin his day? or just let his house burn down and let him find out when its too late? But hey! he was happy to the end. No of course not. You tell him, and if he doesn't believe you you tell him more forcefully till he checks it out for himself.
Jesus was tolerant? of sin? I think not. He loves people right where they are but warns them of the outcome of their lifestyle choices.
Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
So they went out and preached that people should repent.
tolerant? not of sin. repent means turn away (from sin). you make it sound like Jesus message was "aw just love one another and you'll be fine"
But His message was and is repent, turn from evil and follow the Lord

The "person" whom Jesus (A.S.) prophecised will come after him, is called Pargaleeta in the Bible . This word was deleted by interpreters and translators and changed at times to "Spirit of Truth" and at other times, to "comforter" and sometimes "Holy Spirit." The original Greek and its meaning is "one whom people praise exceedingly." The sense of the word, then, is applicable to the word Muhammad in Arabic, since Muhammad means "the praised one."
Jesus (A.S.) also says in the Bible,
... and a little while and you shall not see me; and again a little while, you shall see me because I go to the Father.
(Bible, John 16:16)
... and the Holy Qur'an says,
And surely they slew him not. But Allah (God) raised him unto Himself.
(Holy Qur'an, Surah Nisaa, Verse 157-158)
As such, Muslims believe that Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) was raised to heaven.
May Allah Guide all people to the Truth. Aameen.

He sounds like the type of man I would listen to and respect. If there was a religion based on this person I would be interested in learning more. Please let me know if there is a religion that is really based on these morals.
Thank you

The only thing I remember him just really being intolerant of was homosexuality. Other than that, I believe you are right. He was exceedingly tolerant.

Yes, I agree.
Nothing makes more crazy, than a "religious" person and.or church, who judges others constantly.
How can they read the Bible, so often, and miss the biggest point?
The moral to the story, if you will.
*************
But that's when I shrug my shoulders, and "move along, move along, just to make it through."
