Well I don't know how old you are but I think that you should speak to your folks about how it made you feel to lose your other dog. You shouldn't allow your previous hurt to impact your love of the new dog though. That will only damage your relationship and you don't want to do that. If your family does indeed get a new dog, don't hold back on loving her just because your afraid of losing her. Unfortunately that's how this world is. We love, and lose, until it ends and we are together again.

Believe me as soon as they get a dog all of your feelings will fade about not wanting a dog. I dont know why they got rid of your first dog but if you listen to the things your parents complain about things the dog does then just try as hard as you can to fix the problem before they give another dog away!

I was in exactly the same position when I was a teen..My parents and siblings were all excited to get a new dog, and I knew that I could never love another dog, as I had the one I had lost..So, I told them just how I felt..that I knew they would get it, but I wanted nothing to do with it..

Well, they adopted an adult 35 pound black poodle..YUCK! I like hounds, and big dogs...
It didn't take the poodle very long to squeeze her way into my heart..I loved her dearly..not as much as my other dog..but she really wrapped me around her little paw...

I am so glad that she wormed her way into my life..Memories of her are such a joy...
Dogs just have a way about them...I'm betting that your heart will soften enough to let the new dog in..

My Goodness, What makes you think it is up to you?
Who is going to take care of this animal? i would hope it is the people who have decided to get one.

If you dont want a dog, then tell your family that you will have nothing to do with it and then stick to it.

If your desire is to Want one then make the decision and just go along with the rest of the family.

It's a pretty simple situation if you really think about it.
if you decide to not have anything to do with the dog
and they have to get rid of him then you wouldnt have bonded and there would be no loss.

if you decide to go along with the family then you will have a little bit of love for awhile and if you have to get rid of him then you cry a little and then MOVE ON with your life.

Its only emotional pain you are trying to prevent. NOT PHYSICAL.
and everyone who has ever had a pet and lost it eventually gets over the pain.
Pain is good, it makes you stronger to face lifes problems with gusto.

I don't blame you for not wanting to get another dog and then face losing it. It is not right that your family gets a dog and then gets rid of it and then wants to get another one. When you own a pet, it should be a lifetime commitment. It is not a car that you keep a couple of years and trade it for a newer model. Wait until you are out on your own and then get a dog and keep it for life.

Get the dog, spend as much time as you can with it.
When and if they get rid of it remember the times you've shared with it.

I hate dogs so I wouldn't care. But that's the best I could do for you.

They are a lot of work. I like having a child. Doctors visits to the vet can cost a lot!! Wait if you can. Or borrow one for a week or a few days and see what you want to do.
