A woman who is offended by a man who has manners probably doesn't have any herself. Are you kidding?! We women LOVE men who act like a gentlemen...they are treasures.

You know what, I think it's more offending when you do act like a gentleman and open doors, give a you seat, etc., but yet they don't say THANK YOU. They just do it as if they were queens.

Women who want to be taken seriously and treated as equals are often bothered by etiquette rules which suggest different behaviors for men and women, because for the most part, they are designed to make the man take care of the woman, as if she were incapable of doing this for herself. Personally, I think the first person to get to the door should open it for the others; I don't have a problem with a man opening a door for me if he doesn't have a problem with me opening one for him when that is more convenient.

I love it. I think it's so nice when guys hold the door for me. It makes me smile even if I'm having a bad day. I do feel bad when they give up their seat though. I can stand. I don't have a problem with it unless I have really high heels and the shoes are digging into my feet.

Some people just can't appreciate kindness, and some just complain for the sake of complaining.....if u open the door for them, they complain, if u let the door slam in their face, they complain about how much of a jerk u are. It shouldn't matter who held open a door for u or who gave up a seat......hell they better be lucky that someone was being kind to their bitter asses! I sure as hell appreciate a door being held open for me, in fact I take it as a compliment.

not I. I think a man is rude, ill-mannered, ignorant, and uneducated if he doesn't. Somebody hasn't taught him any manners, OR that's what he's used to seeing ( that kind of behavior at home.) Why WOULD someone be offended at someone trying to be nice? I hold doors for everybody. Think about it...especially if elderly people are trying to get around town.

The offended ladies may think the guy(s) have ulterior motives for being nice. I don't mind though. I would rather have someone hold the door than let it fall on my face.

I know this! My mom is so totally like that! I call her a FemiNazi. I have explained to her that it is done out of politeness and respect but she refuses to listen and is offended.
She says that she gets offended so much because the guys are assuming that she is "weak" of mind. It seems that is what she takes offense to.
