I have an award winning cockerspaniel, he is perfect in every way, he has been flown all over north america for breeeding. He's groomed every week. He is getting on 5yrs old and just lost some hair on his foot and started to limp a bit. I dont see any sores. Vet said it may be ring worm, anyone else ever seen this?
He is a very special dog, in fact I think he saved more lives than Lassie.

Using a blacklight, ringworm will glow. Your vet should have tested him for this. Also, transmittable to humans and highly contagious, how could he have gotten it? Groomers? Other dogs?

Limping shouldn't be associated with ringworm.

Did he actually go to the vet???

Even special dogs get ringworm, it's a fungus. It will glow under blacklight. Be careful you could get it from him. It doesnt matter how well you take care of your pet. Sometimes they just come into contact with these sorts of things. Your vet will give you a topical to get rid of it. If it is ringworm, he will have hairloss, and you may see some sores. But they dont generally limp. You may want to look over his paw really well, between the toes...everywhere for a thorn or something. He may be licking at his foot, which can cause hairloss.

Why didn't the vet test and see if it was ring worm? I know for sure they can with a little scraping. I've never had a dog have ringworm so I don' t know if they would limp or not, but I wouldn't think it would make one limp. I have had someone give me kitten with it in several places. I got some lotion for them from the vet for it.

Hope he starts feeling much better.

Ringworms are not worms. It is simply the name of a fungus similar to athlete's foot and jock itch. It causes circular red rings on people so people used to think it was caused by a worm under your skin. It causes irregular patches of hair loss in dogs but isn't painful. It does glow under a blacklight like others have said. It is very contagious and you can get it but it is fairly easy to get rid of. Have your vet check his foot again. It is possible he just sprained it or broke a small bone and the pain may have caused him to chew at it or lick it till the hair came off. You said he is groomed every week. Maybe he jumped off a grooming table and hurt himself. Lyme disease can also cause sudden lameness (especially in front feet) but does not cause hair loss.
