NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Absolutely do NOT do this unless you first get your veterinarian's okay. If what he has been on is an NSAID (Metacam, Deramaxx, Etogesic, Rimadyl are examples) and you add aspirin, you can cause severe stomach and intestinal bleeding.
With some of the opioid analgesics (painkillers of a different type), aspirin can be used....but it interferes with platelet function, so if he bumps his knee, he's more likely to start bleeding again. So, you still shouldn't use it without his surgeon's okay.
If he will let you, try GENTLY wrapping his knee with a cool towel. Put 2-3 into the freezer, so you can rotate them as they warm up. Scratch his head, rub his belly and ears, and talk to him to help keep his mind off of it.
If you think the pain is severe enough, please call your veterinarian tonight or first thing in the morning. Ask about tramadol or piroxicam. They are both human drugs, but they work VERY well for post-op orthopedic pain in dogs (tramadol is my personal preference.) The good thing about them being human drugs in this case, is that your surgeon can easily call them into any pharmacy for you so neither one of you have to drive down to the clinic (being that tomorrow is Sunday.)

NO, aspirin is a blood thinner and after surgery not a good idea. not sure what kind of pain meds your dog is on currently, but I would call the vet and get the after hours # and have them contact your vet at home and find out what else you can do for the evening. the other thing is sometimes the anesthesia takes a while to leave the system and whining and crying could also be a result of this. keep him confined to a small space as to alot of moving around will also cause more pain etc. did they show you how to put a towel under him to use as a sling to help walk out to go potty? feel free to email me if you need. good luck

My vet told me she does not like telling her clients to give dogs asprin of any sort. If they have to have surgery for some reason or gets a cut its very hard to stop the bleeding because asprin thins the blood out so much .
Also, I would not give my pet any other pain med if he is already on some. You dont know how the two will interact with each other and you could do more harm then good.
Me personally I dont give any of my animals over the counter drugs just from the vet they knwo what they are doing

No, no, no!! Keep your dog from doing any physical activity. He must remain quite to heal. Carry him outside and back inside. If you are not home, lock him up in a carrier, just large enough to comfortably hold him and some water. If you don't have one, a very small room like the bathroom. Use a kiddie gate if needed. You may not give aspirin of any kind in combination of pain meds. Hopefully you were prescribed something like rimadyl or better yet, deramax? Good luck!

no no no no no. The pain meds that your dog are on should be enough! If not, call your veterinarian. Have them dispense you more pain meds. Whether you are usind Deramaxx, which is most likely since he has been on it long term. Aspirin shouldn't be used in dogs anyways, unless you KNOW the correct dosage! You don't use a non steroid with a steroid. it can cause stomach ulsers. Aspirin will also thin his blood.
