Why not answer a question rather than give some answer about something that totally doesn't relate to the question?

For example if someone asks a question about evolution being taught in public schools, why not give an intelligent response instead of carrying on about how the government should tax religious organizations.?

My only guess is that if people can't think of an intelligent answer for the question and are frustrated by it that they spew out some rhetoric that they have rehearsed over and over again.

My guess is also that those same people would criticize religious people for not thinking on their own, yet perhaps the religious person asked an orginal thought provoking question only to be answered with mindless rhetoric.

I guess the logic behind such responses is if you cannot come up with anything to say attack the person or change the subject, as both seem to happen in these situations.
What do you think?(O & attacking the person asking the ??is not a response)

People have their own aganda especially in religious issues. Anything to draw our attention from The Truth. Just as "we" think there is a best answer, some of these people really think their theology or lack-of is the best. I know it's frustrating.

Well, here's the thing: people come here to either actually learn something from a question or help by answering it, or they come here to be little comedians and ask stupid questions that they don't care to have answered. They just want to put a question out there that is totally ridiculous to get a laugh. Those same people will answer questions with a completly useless response just to be "funny". Sometimes their idea of funny is not like yours. I find some of these little comedians funny....and I'm even guilty of it myself. I don't really ask questions though. Anyway, not everyone here takes this thing as serious as other people. Some people just like to piss other people off and don't care about a point being made.

I think you pose a good question.

Some people read the questions and make an honest attempt to answer them. Some people read the questions and are so contemptful of opinions (other than there own) that they see a response as an opportunity to vandalize the opposition. Their responses are the written equivalent of a high school kid throwing an egg at the car of a rival.

You want logic; they want to show off.

Too bad. This is an interesting forum for a real dialog. My guess is that some people are just too immature to take advantage of it.

It appears that you already have touched upon some of the reasons why people feel the need interject haphazardly on any given topic. I would also like to present the idea that some people also crave attention. Some individuals feel that the best way to get themselves noticed (at least in this medium) is to take an overblown opposite stance to the question that is up for consideration or to spout what ever is on their mind. This reminiscent of children who can help interjecting their thoughts into a conversation regardless of the relevance.

Too many people think this is just a place to rant or a blog.

The people at Yahoo obviously don't care about a quality product.

Add it together and you get cra p questions AND cra p answers. 50% of Yahoo Answer is garbage. But I live for the 50% that might make a difference. It's nice to get an email from someone who took their child to the doctors on your advice and is just thanking you for making then take the child in. It sucks to have people report you as abusive when they just don't like what you say.

The main reason is the fact that the weather cannot be predicted with accuracy. If it was possible, then the general elections would have to be changed every year and it woulld be extremely difficult to organize the campaign.
Furthermore, Tiger Woods does not seem to accept what the tabloids are publishing about his wife. Oh, well let's see if Osama Bin Laden is really dead.

Yes! It's true, we do tend to answer questions with questions and go on to other topics that are not relevant to the question.

People are generally better at using "diversion tactics" which can include attacking the "asker" and/or...ignoring the topic at hand by diverting to another subject. The use of diversion is not only used on Yahoo Q&A, you can see it occur in daily life, for the same reasons. It's easier to "divert", than to respond intelligently if the question is in any way outside of one's comfort zone.

I think the reason for them answering questions with no knowledge of the subject is because they want to score two points really quickly... but what they dont realise is they have wasted one of their 20 questions that they can answer for a particular day... and also probably wasted a chance of getting 10 points for a best answer because their response is so utterly pathetic...

Well thats my theory anyway =D

I leave them alone now.
I gave an irrelevant answer to an irrelevant question, and the questioner had my answer removed. I felt it was a deliberate stupid question, so I played along and gave a stupid answer.

I think if most obscene, and irrelevant questions was ignored, they might slow down.

Then you have the ones that think they are philosophers and fashion up an unanswerable question, then be choppy because the answers can't work.

Hey, if it was really bad, I'd leave though.
