I'm really on the fence when it comes to my bedroom. I have a light brown "cup of coa-coa" colored bedroom. A black upholstered leather headboard, wood floors, Pottery Barn Sheets that are white and have espresso stripes around the edges. I think its called grand embroider. And a bed skirt by David Hicks called Axum Stripe. Its has blue, beige, chocolate brown, and a rust color. The oriental rug also has the same colors. I guess its kind of a faux pas to mix black and brown but i feel it looks nice. There's also a pine bookcase with two doors on it, its serves as a place for a flat screen television.

I would like to paint the trim black because I heard it makes the room seem. larger and I think it would look nice. Is this a bad idea?

How about painting the trim a rich espresso color. It sounds like you have some in the room anyways and it should all blend well. That would be a very sexy room. Same colors mine is in!!
I did my room more masculine for my husband this time and that is how I went also. I have stripes and shadow boxes in espresso and lots of cool orbs and such.
Sounds like we have similar taste, so again. Espresso.

The trim in your room should be the same as your walls unless it is 6" or more and substantial in size. You don't want to make a puny little baseboard your focal point. Mixing black and brown is a very hot trend right now so don't worry about mixing. However, consider painting the ceiling a light shade of blue that is in your rug or bed skirt. Goto the paint store, find the colour, then goto the lighter version of that blue. However, the pine bookcase would bother me. Consider painting it if it is a newer piece of furniture. If you do go with black trim, paint the bookcase the same black. Remember that gloss shows imperfections and matte is more forgiving. If you think of colors in % your main colour should be 80%. You can safely add two additional colors at 10% each of your decorating scheme. Black always grounds a room. Don't worry about it feeling small or large. It will either feel warm or cool.

What color is the ceiling? White?
I say you should stick with white trim. It contrasts the coa-coa wall color much better than any dark color would. Black might make the room look larger, but white trim would make it look classic.

I used to think black and brown was bad to mix but not if done right. I am trying to picture your room and I am thinking the black trim would look really good. If you are really unsure do one wall (crown moulding?) and then step back and look to see if you like it. If everyone matched the ceiling no one would have anything BUT white trim, ya know.

Try it, I think it will look nice.

My dad's office building was painted a dark green color with black trim. It looks really great. I would paint the trim black only if everything else were a dark color.

I don't think it would hurt anything to paint it black. You could paint a portion of the trim/molding black and see how it looks. Sometimes in decorating you think something will work...only way to know for sure is to give it a try. You can always paint it back.

NO IT IS NOT A BAD IDEA, BUT I THINK BLACK COLOUR WILL CREATE A DEVIL MIND IN YOU, AS IT IS SAID BY MY ASTROLOGER. SO IT WOULD BE GOOD IF YOU PAINT IT WITH WHITE.
