I'm a Hindu and can definately say that it is normal to slack from time to time on meditation. Is it normal for life to seem more stressful and harder when one is slacking? Yes. Why? Because meditation focuses our mind and allows us to calm it. We achieve a state of peace in meditation and allow it to calm down. Buddhists call our mind "the monkey mind" because of how busy it is. When we stop meditating that peaceful state and calmness leave us. The awareness we had of our thoughts start to fade and we start attaching ourselves to them again and getting lost in the illusion of our thoughts and not able to focus on reality before us.

Don't worry, Buddhist, Pagan, Hindu, Jain, etc...all occasional slack on meditation from time to time and if enough time elapses all of us who meditate can lose that conscious awareness, calm, and focus we had and thus get lost in our thoughts. Paramhamsa Sri Nithyananda Swamiji said it best "We suffer when there is a gap between our imaginations and reality." Imaginations meaning our thoughts, our expectations, etc and the suffering occurs when they are different than what is actually happening. Meditation helps bring reality into focus and while we still have thoughts and expectations we are more aware of them and do not necessarily act upon them as quickly as we would have before meditating.

Peace be with you.

Blessed be.

I think the reason you're slacking on your meditation is the reason your life seems harder. Meditating can help you deal with these stresses and so can working out. (They probably charge you for the rec center at your college even if you don't use it, so you might as well.)

Alot of folks slack on meditation because they feel like they don't have time for it. Meditation doesnt' have to take a long time or anything. I meditate whenever I have to wait for something. Sure I look silly sitting in the waiting room meditating, but there it is. I don't know those people and the people I do know know I do weird stuff like that all the time. You can meditate while you wait for your teacher to show up in class, while waiting for your ramen noodles to boil, whatever. One of the cool things about meditating is that it doesn't take long to have an effect. You sort of leave time while meditating and it can seem like you've been at it for hours when it was only five minutes.

I also meditate on the new moon, but in a more formal manner. It's part of my religious observance. I set up a drum CD for that and call quarters before I begin and that generally lasts a half hour to 45 minutes. Another thing I do sometimes is meditate while dancing, aka ecstatic dance. If you don't have time to do anything else, you might not have time to go clubbing either, but I bet you could tie it in with your workout. Ecstatic... eliptical machine?

Slacking on meditation is not uncommon at all. You get so caught up in the mundane detail of life that you just don't think you have the time. Of course, when you do get back to it, you will actually find that you have more time for that, and everything else becasue it releaves so much of the stress that makes thing harder that you can get through things faster. Happens to all of us from time to time. We need that "down time", but don't always take it. part of it is giving yourself permission to have that "ME" time. Simply the mind doesn't want to be disciplined, it will do everything it possibly can to prevent that from happening. Once it gets trained, it beomes so much easier to do that you won't even remember why you had so much trouble.

Meditation comes in many forms. For me meditation can be rubbing my dogs belly or doing a sudoku puzzle. It can be as short or as long as you need it to be. Find meditation in your everyday acts and this will help you with your stress.

Yes life does get pressing for all at times and we need to drop some things for awhile to try and keep up .you have been out of practice for awhile and like all muscles the mind grows slack and weak and needs to get back into shape with practice. it might be harder to stay with just like when you started as life keeps throwing blocks in the way.but keep trying.

It is okay if you can't find time for meditation everyday. Have you tried just grounding yourself like you would do before a ritual? It is quick and easy. You could also meditate before bed or every weekend. However, it is not neccessary for you to meditate all of the time unless you feel you have to.

Hope This Helps!

I'd say its normal. Meditation is helpful to oneself and helps you gain focus. Sometimes life just gets to be a little to busy for down time. College is like that for me. It doesn't help that I'm not allowed Candles or Incense.

Yep, sounds like your problem. Meditation, if nothing else, is an excellent guide to focusing your energies. Gives them direction, Without direction, we flounder, we stress, we make life a lot harder then it has to be. Get yourself back on track, things will begin to slowly return to normal

You can't center if you don't meditate. Without centering and balance there is stress. You have to be consistent.
