Do people in other countries detest people in USA who claim to be of that origin due to their last name?

I am a mix of german, scottish, welsh, native american, and nordic. As most americans are, a mix. The people who take their last name and make themselves irish, german, english, etc...get on my last good nerve. I could walk around and declare I'm scottish due to my last name, but I'm every bit of American, and glad of it. I don't know, anyway just wondering for the people of those countries do us americans get on you last good nerve calling themselves irish, etc?

Detest is too strong a word, amused is more like it, when I was in the states I was always being told of people background like they wanted to claim some sort of english/european heritage, Now I live In Australia, its the same, people are always telling me of their english ancestory.
I just think its amusing as most english are of mongrel birth because the country has been invaded over the centuries and has so many different nationallities intergrate.

My ancestors were Scots, German, etc. I can say that I'm of Scots descent and interested in all things pertaining to Scotland, but the fact is that I'm still very much an American. And a mutt, at that. :-)

According to my dad who worked in Scotland for several years, the Scots are amused by Americans who want to dress up in kilts and brag about belonging to thus-and-so clan. Tolerant, but definitely amused.

I think every other country hates us. That is one of the truths I have picked up on Yahoo Answers. I guess I will keep my yankee dollar at home and quit traveling.
