This year I I have 3 extra in laws and 2 new grandchildren, I have always bought for everyone in my family from kids, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and vice-versa, we are looking for ways to not spend so much money this year, as a family we want to have a good fun Christmas without it being a financial strain on anyone. Any ideas of fun Christmas we still want to have sometype of gift giving session but not as much.

My family started doing a white elephant gift exchange when we started getting too big to buy for everyone. Now we all try to find the craziest, most outrageous gifts possible to exchange. Usually the best stuff is just lying around the house. We've had everything from a tooth-shaped pencil holder to a swan made out of a milk carton. Everyone likes it way better than impersonal gifts given out of obligation.

Oh, and we still buy little toys for the kids.

How about you have a jar where everyone donates money and then give that money to a family that is not as fortunate?

If you all still want to give gifts do a white elephant (always hilarious and fun) or do a gift exchange where the gift can't be over a certain dollar amount. Or do a Christmas tree bulb exchange.

Good luck!

my family and i had this same problem, what i suggest is between the adults everyone put their name in a bag and everyone draws a name and that is the one you give a present to for Christmas.......the children should get a gift as usual....this will help the wallet for all........if there is a elder in the family, i think it would be nice for him/her receive a gift [set a limit $10.00]
make the Christmas a more family thing, spending time with each other and enjoying the season, instead of spending a fortune...we do this and works well, the kids still have their Christmas and we enjoy the unity and love of all. of course have a dinner, where all adults contribute in supplying the food and cooking it....

Draw names & when you go to give out the gift you have to stand up and describe the person whose name you got & the others have to guess who it is. Have all the ladies bring a gift for a lady & the men a gift for a man.
Make gifts. Shop at dollar stores.
People should understand that you are not financially able to buy for everyone.
Some people in my family only buy for kids & everyone understands that.

Everyone brings one gift. We put the gifts under the tree, and the oldest goes first in choosing a gift, then the one younger than that gets a gift out, and if that person doesn't like that gift they can exchage it with what the other person got. then it just goes on until the youngest one.....they youngest one gets what they want ;)

Girlfriend, I would start looking at the dollar store. All of their items are not cheap. You could find all sorts of stocking stuffers. You could also start looking through the clearance sections of stores like; Marshalls, target, walmart, and Old Navy. I usually find great bargains at this time of the year.

Go to sales and when you see a real bargain, grab it. Remember it is the thought that counts, something small and inexpensive can have more significance than an overpriced unwanted item.
