Dear eazyE , I think we need to look at this verse in context, what they are being told here is that as belivers and as deciples they shouldnt hold grudges with one another but should be forgiving and show patients tward one another, just as christ was merciful to us by dying on the cross for our sins. this isn't saying that we should confess our sins to a preist. the Bible says "there is one mediator between God and man, Jesus christ" 1Timothy 2:5. Jesus said "I am the way the truth and the life, and no man cometh to the father but by me." John14:6. so if your depending on anything or anyone other than Jesus Christ, the Bible warns that we are then trusting our own righteousness. the BIBle says salvationg is a gift, it cannot be earned by going to a preist 12 times per day, or any works we may try. the BIBle says we have fallen short of the Glory of God. How? let me ask you a couple of questions, Have you ever lied (even once--fibs, white lies, etc.)? Ever stolen (anything--the value is irrelevant)? Jesus said, "Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her, has committed adultery already with her in his heart." Have you ever looked with lust? If you have said "Yes" to these three questions, you have broken Gods Holy Law, the BIBle says you have angered him even by the thought and desires of lying, and steling ect. the BIBle warns that the penalty for our sin is Hell Buit when Jesus died on the cross, he payed the penalty for our sins, past present and futre. the only way to be saved and have assurance of eternal life, is to Repent (turn from sin once and for all) and trust Jesus alone, not Jesus and good works, but trust Jesus alone ot take all your sins, and then trust him as Lord and savior, and you wil have eternal life. God Bless

If your brother offends you, speak to him. If he recognizes his fault, than you have won him. If not, take 2 or 3 witnesses with you to confront him. If he will not listen, than take it to the church and confess him openly.

There is only one whom you confess your sins to who is able and willingly to forgive you. I see nothing wrong in telling a priest your sins and faults. I see nothing wrong in letting others know yours sins and faults. Why? Because when God forgives you, the load is completely taken off your shoulders, so that if you heard someone saying, "hey there comes that perv who slept with another man" it will not even touch a nerve.

I think that more difficult concept to misunderstand, especially by people of little or no faith, which is most of us 99.999% is that coming before God and confessing your sin is not as easy as said, especially when you don't know God or worst, believe in God. The word sin is simply a word to most, just like "Jesus is the son of God"
If you only knew how much power and took to heart that sentence, than you would completely turn your life 180 degrees............no joke.

Excuses. Rationalizations.

What a bunch of lame answers.

It was the crucified and risen Jesus who empowered and commanded the apostles in this matter, after his work of redemption was already complete.

These responses are a perfect example of the false traditions of men being used to overrule and misinterpret key portions of sacred scripture, cheating millions of sinners out of the comfort and counselling that God knows they need and deserve, from his true church.

I asked my priest for the sacrament of confession but he refused it to me because my sins derived from mental illness rather than something deliberate. I've also known my priest (and his predecessor before he passed away) for 20 years - even when he was a car salesman before accepting the call to the priesthood.

EazyE,
Because I am a Christian, and because of the sacrifice that Jesus did on the cross for my sins, by shedding His blood for me, when He died, the veil of the Temple, leading to the Holy of Holies, where only the Priests were allowed was torn completely in two. When that was done it gave me complete access to God personally, so that when I sin, I can go to Him directly in prayer and confess my sins, asking humbly for his forgiveness and he will give it to me.
God Bless you. I hope this helps you.

I use to, when I was a Catholic. I never saw the sense in saying prayers to Mary, who is blessed by not divine [and NOT God], as penance. I confess my sins to God and pray for His guidance and strength to live my life according to His perfect will. I think the Catholic church messed up what Jesus intended.

NO,

Jesus death on the cross tore down the curtain that seperated teh Holy / Most Holy .

I am told now that I can come boldly before the throne.

I have one intercessor and that is Jesus.
