I just got married and the thing that made is special was sentiment. Use things that are sentimental to the couple. I had a slide show with all our pics growing up and pics of us together themed to music that both described us. I also had our picture on the programs and as you entered the ceremony set in a frame. Use decorations and things that define the couple and everyone will be crying like babies.

See if you can get an honour card for them when they come out of the church. Have a collage of pictures of them growing up at the reception.

since he is in the army try to put that in his wedding some how like have a military hummer pick him and his wife up to go to the airport instead of a limo.
