You know I don't think they do typically. I think that the fact that one wants to be in an open relationship suggests that they are not ready to be in a monogamous relationship so they shouldn't try. An open relationship is a euphemism for a relationship that has no basis. I think people that agree to be in an open relationship are really saying that they aren't interested in a relationship but they don't want to let the other person go completely for fear of being alone. Also, an open relationship absolves both people of responsibility, of having to be considerate of someone else's feelings, of commitment, and still affords the person the benefits of a relationship when they do feel like playing house, and an easy out if they don't. Eventually I believe you will ultimately find what you need in other people but as long as it is a mutual understanding and no one is getting hurt, go for it. Just don't forget that you care about that person, whether you want to be in a committed relationship with them or not, so don't do things that are cruel just because it serves you at the time. I don't know if this makes sense to you but I hope it is helpful. Good Luck!

You're kidding ourselves. It's very hard to override both culture, morality, and instinct.
One or the other Will cause some jealousy, eventually, and kill the relationship.
Now you might have a "casual" open relationship", where there is no emotional attachment; just pure lust, involved. but it will suffer the same fate once you begin to wonder if some other guy is giving her a better time that you are!

i dont see how they can unless you dont really love your partner. the way isee it if you truely loved the one you with why would you want some one else and let the other one be with some one else also..that is strange relationship but if they just want friends with benefits i guess it could work ..unless there is love in volved than no. how could it possibly?
