When I was a student and the mother of my best friend told me about a dream she had. She saw her husband taking away a serpent from his heart and he was showing a great relief. Her husband was dead at that time and that meant that the prayers and the religious services and charity she did for him were received by God.
NB : I am Christian Orthodox by birth and I am very happy with that.

I was raised to believe in God. It wasn't pushed on me I was given the information and left to make up my own mind up. The only thing my mother did not put up with was blasphemy. Good for her and for me i think.

When I used to believe in him. I was indoctrinated into the Christian religion when I was very young. I "let Jesus into my life" for the first 18-20 years of my life.
However, I then looked into what my beliefs were and what Christians beliefs really were. I found as I studied it more, it was less and less believable. I then studied other religions and even the nature of belief, itself.
The more I learned, the less believable God became.
I have now been an atheist for over 20 years.
