Hello. My husband and I live in Hoboken, and we're interested in really easy day trips in the NY/NJ area. We just took the bus to the Japanese supermarket in Edgewater and we loved it. Any other recommendations?

We live in Hoboken, and have easy access to PATH, Light Rail, NJ Transit, and of course the NYC subway system. We don't have a car, so we would need to find places that are accessible by public transportation. We're looking for things to do on the weekends (we're newlyweds) that would take no more than about an hour to get to each way.

Do you know of any good places to check out? If so, please provide transportation details, costs, etc. Thanks.

I'm Japanese and am glad you liked Mitsuwa Marketplace in Edgewater!

Do you like shopping?

Woodbury Common Premium Outlets is definitely the best and cheapest place for shopping in New York. This place is huge, over 220 stores, so make sure you allow a whole day to visit all the stores.

There are a couple of buses that take you directly to the Woodbury Common from Port Authority in Manhattan. It'll be an hour trip, and the fare is $38.

Wow, where to begin. Definitely take the PATH to NYC, from there you can access so many wonderful places. Perhaps a NY CITY guide. Or from Hoboken you can take numerous ferries to different points.

Public transporation is plentiful from Hoboken. The Japanese supermarket is a great place to eat but it all depends on what you are interested in.

Sports, Shopping, Tourist traps. its all within reach. Central Park is a great place to visit and free. Or if you want to stay in NJ, there are plenty of buses that leave Hoboken for just about any point in NJ. The summer is over, so the beach is probably not the best option.

What do you like to do?

IF you enjoyed that, I would take the Path and go the Chinatown where they have some large interesting Chinese Supermalets and also check our the lower east side will many small discount stores.

Theres also the South Street Seaport which in not far from the path train. The Bronx zoo which it totally unique and just a suway ride upston to the Bronx,

A trip to the island of new york harbor
take hudson bergen light rail to the liberty state park station. There you can take a ferry to ellis island and to the statue of liberty. Then you can take a ferry to manhattan. A short walk from there is the brooklyn marine teminal. there you can take another ferry to goveners island. once you come back there is a subway station. take the subway until canal street. go down one block on first or second avenue and there is a great chinese resurant called great NY noddletown. To end the day take the R line to whithall street then walk to the staten island ferry terminal and take the ferry(it is free and has great views of the harbor).Once you come back take the 1 line to rector street and walk to the world trade center path station.

It's kind of a long way off but how about going to Atlantic City? It makes a good weekend trip.

Also, I really enjoy Franklin Mills Mall in Philly...
