My boyfriend is a wonderful guy. He is loving, and caring, and sensitive. However, I am thinking he may be too sensitive. He has cried, many times in front of me, but mostly when we're on the phone. At first it was endearing, and very nice to see him show his emotions. But lately if we have a small fight, or if I am mad or hurt about something, he completely loses it. Sometimes it gets scary....I know that he is depressed to a degree, and I know it would be in his best interest to see or talk to someone about this. But he is very stubborn, and I know he won't do anything about it. He knows he is "bad" when he overreacts like he does, but he can't stop himself, and it is getting harder to snap him out of it.
I am scared for him, and our relationship. Has anyone ever been in a similar situation?
Any advice? Thank you!

I went out with a guy who sounds exactly like your boyfriend. This guy was that way because he was severely depressed. He was constantly threatening to kill himself everytime he upset me. I'm talking about small upsets. On Halloween he had promised that we would head out to a haunted house after he got back with his boys. He forgot about me and I sat at home the whole night. The next day he said he was going to kill himself because he forgot about me. I hadn't even made a big deal about it, I just had asked him where he was. This was when I decided I couldn't be with him anymore. I felt that everyday I spent trying to cheer him up. I became emotionally drained and just couldn't do it anymore.

I'm not saying that you have to break up with this guy, in fact, if he isn't draining you then it isn't a big problem. I would talk to him about your thoughts and maybe suggest that he goes to see a doctor and let him know you would be willing to go with him. Some Zoloft may be all this guy needs. But if he isn't truely depressed and just a little emotional, then it's not too bad. Just think, he will think more about you more than most guys (for the most part.)

The reason it seems wierd for a guy to cry, is because in almost every species, in every culture, the man is the warrior. He hunts, he fights the wars. And if someone should break down and cry on the battlefield, he's as good as meat.

Now in OUR modern world, man has domesticated. No REAL wars to fight. And we don't hunt for our food anymore. So men have become more emotional. Some more than others.

Our natural instincts tell us, it's never alright to see a man cry over stupid stuff. You need to crack this nut. Find out WHY he breaks down like this. Because it's not normal. LAST OPTION, take him to a doctor, and drug him up. But at least try to find out why he does this in the first place.

May i suggest talking to him about it ? I think guys that cry should get some respect for being man enough to show their feelings, i for example couldnt care less if i read a good book/saw a good movie and cried, but the way you're saying it, he's just overdoing it, even more than an 'average' girl.

Try telling him everything is good only in moderation. Heck, maybe even put in a white lie and say that it makes you feel bad when he cries ?

Emotional train wrecks are real downers.

Prozac may help for a bit – but there is no cure for a repressed life without hope. You will find a better mate soon.

I think he needs counseling. He may be suffering from depression.
