ooo...something interesting. Try meditating. Not in the spiritual way, but logically. Let your mind be free. You can retain more information. Think about things. Do not necessarily organize your mind...but relax. There is no real way to increase brain capacity. After all, one only uses a maximum of 15 percent of their brain. Plus you might want to ask a doctor as it can be a sign of Alzheimer's

When trying to remember new things it is said that if you make up a song or rhyme you will remember it better. You could also make a tape of your studies to listen to in the car or when doing housework. That way you are doing 2 things at once. I did that when I went I was studying to be a lab tech many years ago. Word association is another way to remember things. Remember the saying to memorize the order of the planets; my very educated mother just served us nine pickles. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto. Do something like that to help you, and for Pete sake you are not old or even close (I am more than 20 years your senior and not old) although you are correct in stating that you are getting older and if you are lucky you will reach it in the future.

Keep a small notebook pad with you on topics of the day to run a routine refresh on the more important matters than get more detailed until the mind starts kicking into gear. If it applies cut down on the booze, too!

Use it or lose it. Keep learning, studying, reading, doing mentally challenging activities, such as crosswords, suduko (or whatever it's called), etc. The more you repeat the new info, the more likely it is you will remember it. You are building your mental synapses & increasing your chances of memorizing the info. (p.s. the same holds true for bad memories - the more you dwell on them, the longer they stay in your mind to torment you)!

i admire your taking courses at 38!
read stuff thru quickly the first time, faster the second time and then very slowly the third time. and i agree, reading out loud does a lot, too. maybe for the fourth time?
in your leisure time (or when you're tired of homework) do crossword puzzles. it's supposed to help you maintain mental acquity and it's been recommended for senior citizens for that very reason.
good luck!

First of all your not old...38 is not old.
I suggest..daily vitamins and exercise and water.
Your body is like a tree...It will not grow and bloom beautifully without water, oxygen and good soil.
You need to drink a gallon of water a day, exercise which feeds your body and brain, and good healthy eating to supply your blood with the energy it needs for your organs to function.

experts suggest keeping your mind active... playing crosswords, suduku..etc
the jury is still out on things like ginko pills, but if you are worried about it, just take them.. it can't hurt, right?
if your memory is REALLY failing you, go to the doctor.. just to be on the safe side
