I'm a nurse and work at a hospital. One of my colleagues (an anesthesiologist) says anesthesia is like being a pilot; hours and hours of absoute routine boredom, with moments of sheer panic tossed in.

It's a lot of math to do anesthesia. Make sure you're strong on your math skills. Chemistry is a big part of it also. Be prepared for LOTS of chem. You'll know your Periodic Tables your first week in college, and you'll use them almost every day your entire six to eight years.

It's routine; but in anesthesia you have to very carefully monitor your patients, and know how to react quickly when you have an advert reaction; which does happen.

You have to think about it this way; yes, you'll be paying a lot for school, and you probably won't be making as much as you'd like at first, but you'd be a doctor. You'd be helping save and improve lives every day. Isn't that worth it?

To answer your question, YES, and yes.

Yes, it is a great paying job, but, you have college, medical school, internship, residency and the time to establish an affiliation with a medical facillity.
The money IS good, but, they have about the highest malpractice premiums of all the medical specialities.

You'll make a lot of money, but you'll have to go to school for a long time. First, you would have to get a MD. Then you'll have to do the residency for that.

Yes, it is a good job...good pay, but you can have long days---lots of hours, but you get good vacation, and the long hours are not all the time, so you can have a good daliy schedule..

I think so.

An anesthetist is also good even if you don't make it all the way to anesthesiologist.

Make sure you like to memeorize Biology and Chemistry and Math, if you do, you can probably do it.
